Surprisingly, a couple of the better teams from GA are not on that list. That is quite an impressive group from all over the SE coming to play, this should be a great tournament. |

Yeah, the idea of so many teams coming from other states was too tempting! We will need to bring our A game to be competitive, but I am really looking forward to seeing all the talent that will be there. I really lucked out seeing this post, or we would have been on the outside looking in. Thanks for posting, insider! And, Tae, take it easy on us if we hook up in this thing!!!!

Looks like it was the EC Yankees that got spot 31 and not the Grays. |

Ah. Mike told me it was the Grays when I sent him the note, but it does look like the Yanks were the other team in right before us. |

actually I meant Grays 24th but who cares anyway. With this many teams maybe there should be at least a gold and silver bracket... |

Guys - nothing is official until all the $100 deposit checks are in. We will put a cut off date on those checks very soon. I have received emails daily from teams wanting to get in so the list has been up and down. There are a couple of teams that are still trying to finish out their rosters so it's still tenative. We are trying to get about a 50/50 split of GA teams and out of state. We have to have 16 GA teams because we have to start on Thursday night in order to make it all work and we need the local teams to play one game Thursday night. We will have 3 pool play games and then a 32 team bracket using all 4 fields at ECB. We are not doing a 16 and 16 gold and silver brackets like last year. While I'm normally a big fan of such a format, this one won't work that way. It's too difficult to make out the pools because we don't know the talent of every team and I don't want high quality teams ending up in the lower bracket. Also, we won't be putting pools together based on USSSA points because that may force ECB vs. ECB match ups and South Carolina teams playing each other which nobody wants. We will try to create pools where teams will get an opportunity to play out of state teams they have never seen before. The kids will enjoy it! |

Moccs, I wouldn't expect any of the Gwinnett county teams in this tournament. I don't know any other teams plans but......going off of last year we can guess which teams will actually show up to the big major tourneys and who won't. |

Shiloh was put on the waiting list last week. Impressive this was full 9 months in advance. Would be a lot of fun playing the out of state teams. Hope we get it. |

We're really looking forward to this one, plenty of out of town teams that you normally don't get to play. I know it's early but who might be the top 4-5 teams from outside of GA coming to this??

This tournament may expand to 48 or even 64 teams. We already have 11 teams on a waiting list so it's easy to fill. We are just waiting on a final decision on additional fields. The format may change if we go to 48 or 64 teams. We will do what's best for all teams.
As for out of state teams: I don't know them all but these are top major teams.... Grasshoppers, Pokers, UBC, MegaStars, Cincy Flames. If we do expand, we will take a combination of GA and out of state teams. Germantown Giants, TX Bambitos and Team FL (old Legends team) to name a few that might join as they have expressed interest.
In addition, we will most likely sanction this with USSSA but not use points for pools so we can have good pool play games. Several teams have expressed concerns that teams will pick up 3 or 4 kids from CA or other states to come play in it like they do at the Elite 32 or Super Series if it's not sanctioned with rosters frozen. This is the reason it will most likely be sanctioned with USSSA. We want to host an Elite tournament but also have some integrity within the rosters, which is very challenging to do with all of the hired guns out there. I understand the complaints as it's become a joke as some of the top national talent play on 4 or 5 different teams each year and show up at top tournaments with a new jersey on each weekend. The kids don't understand how they can play the same kids each weekend but on different teams. I guess "it is what it is" until these sanctioning bodies crack down on it. There was no reason to allow teams to pick up 3 kids to go to the Elite 32 and then bat only 9 kids. 33% of their team isn't really on their team so nobody really knows which "team" is really the best because it turns into an All-star game with the best recruiters and deepest pockets picking up the best talent from all over the US. I'm done with my rant but it's become very difficult for real teams that are trying to compete at a national level. |

Amen!! I would love to see this tournament be sanctioned and have a frozen roster date. I would like to see how my real team compares to other real teams . |

This tournament is shaping up to be one of the best tournaments in Southeast history.....being that it is not a National Championship......
Although it would be easier to sanction the tournament USSSA ..... It would be great if you guys could have a split bracket format like Triple Crown. Due to the talent and caliber of the teams coming it would be a shame for some teams to go 3 and out....You would have 2 - 3 quality championship games at every bracket level.
PS ... Mike if you do go USSSA ..... Give out more than 75 pts please ......LOL......Seriously the grind a team has to go through to win this one "if" you could give out 300 that would be fair ...... |

Memorial Day is generally a double point event in GA. So it will probably be more like 150 points. To be granted an NIT I think you have to reach a total amount of teams. It doesn't go by age so there would have to be one tournament with multiple age groups and a certain number to be considered an NIT. I could be wrong though. |

I don't control how many points this tournament is worth but it will be sanctioned with USSSA. Yes, it should be worth as many as a Super NIT but who knows how many they will give out. We will most likely split this into two brackets and will likely be able to go to 48 teams total....32 Gold and 16 Silver. There will be 3 pool play games and then bracket play so a winner in the Gold bracket will play 8 games over 4 days. By doing it this way, 24 of the 48 teams will play at least 5 games on the holiday weekend.
It all depends on us getting a 6th field. We have enough teams to fill all 48 spots right now but we are waiting on official word. We are also looking at Topps or TBS (Travel Baseball Select) sponsoring the tournament. |

Travel Ball Select usually does a good job when sponsoring tournaments. As big as the 11U age group was last year I think they would want a piece of this tournament. TBS should also live broadcast a couple games or at least the championship game. Either way this tourney is going to be a real winner!!! |

Are teams that concerned with USSSA points? I would think they would rather line up and just play the games, not sure what getting extra does for you. |

I dont think anyone cares about the points. I believe the main reason to make it usssa is to control rosters. Otherwise teams would just combine players from all over.. |
