If a player was good enough to be on that team, in the coach's opinion, they would have been selected. In fact, there were several players from tryouts that were given a second look outside of tryouts. That doesn't mean your child isn't a good player, but, not to be rough, he just wasn't as good as one's that were chosen, in the opinion of the coach. The players chosen are the ones that the coach feels gives him the best chance at success. Just because you've played on major level teams before that doesn't give you an automatic roster spot on any team you choose. You have to go out and earn your spot. The boys selected did just that.
Whit I congradulate all that made this team. The try outs were part of the evaluation, also puting a team together is like puting a puzzle together. Getting the right pieces in the right place. Players performance at Try-out, the players record and achievments would likely have been a factor as well as previous history with the coach/core of the team ( good or bad )would and should all be considered.
What I do know is that there was a considerable amount of controvery at HP over how the previos HP team was dismantled and who should and should not be on this new team. There are other HP coaches that would have picked a different group of kids than these. I know for a fact that 2 of the other HP coaches that evaluated the 13U try outs would have come up with a different roster. We as parents all have our own thoughts on how good our kids is or someone elses, it is all very subjective. I do believe that when choosing an "Elite " team that the players past history ( Level of Play ) would be a resonable factor to consider. A kid that has played for and contributed on high ranked teams against the Best in class teams has some experience that could also be considered. Just because you play on a team with a " Major " label behind it does not mean alot if you spent the year playing in open tournaments and rarely facing the BIG boys. I would suspect that this team will play more Major tournaments and less open tournaments than in the past. If they play well against the top tier teams they will start to see the top tier pitchers from the top tier teams, its a whole new game now.
In the end this is a very solid group of boys and will get alot of good training and coaching and should do very well. It will be nice to see another quality team come out of HP.
All things considered ( the coach and core group ) I think they choose the right kids for this team, but not neccessarily the best players that were available. I think that if the GA coach would have worked with the HP coach in puting the team together they would have been able to recruit a little more horse power. There was a bit of Smoke & Mirrors at play here but no different than most teams, it's just part of the deal with travel ball.
Personaly I consider most of the families on this team friends and look forward to seeing this team compete with the big boys this year.
Good Luck to all involved.

It should work out great for everyone. Now those other coaches that would have chosen a different roster are free to pick up some of that horsepower that Coach Jones missed the boat on. Luckily, it seems that there will be enough teams (four 13u teams at HP, I think) for everyone to find a place to play. |

Whit, It seems you have missed my point. 1st. of all I'm not hating on HP, this team or any of the families involved. I have just responded to a few of the post about the making of the team. There was some contravery over how it went down...you and I have had a few phone conversations early on about several aspects of it.
It seems to have worked out fine for HP and this team. As I have already stated I think they chose the right kids for them. There is not 1 kid on the team that I personally don't think should be there.
The point about working with the previous HP coach and recruiting more Horspower goes like this. The HP coach was about to embark on a recruiting rampage. Trust me I was involved. The Ga coach took the path of " We are holding a try-out and will pick from there. HP coach had little say in the matter and stopped reqruiting for the team. I think Coach Jones got all the Horespower he wanted that showed up at try-outs. My oppinion is that had they recruited instead of invited kids to try-out that they may have drawn in more talent ( No offense ) but if you look at the Ultra Top Tier Teams they all seem to be very aggresive recruiters and don't rely so much on who shows up at an open try-out.
I don't think Coach Jones " Missed the Boat " on any talent that showed. It's his team and he did it his way.....nothing wrong with that at all. My guess is he is very happy with the team he has. He was very selective and knew what he was looking for.
Once again I wish the team well and look forward to seeing you play this year.

Getyousome....hey whats up with the rumor that a southsider covertly infiltrated the evil north for a weekend a few weeks ago????
This baseball war stuff could get fun.
We need to come up with a baseball version of Call Of Duty!
Don't under estimate the Gamers Blue team. I think they have added some " Horse Power " in the last week or 2. I think you will see a different side of them next time you cross paths with them. They have always been one of those dangerous teams that win alot games or atleast hang with teams you might not expect them to. With the new additions this year I think they will represent "The South" pretty well.
45's have done a great job of " Recuiting " and will be one of the teams to beat at every tournament they enter. Good Luck This Year! |

getusome3ecb: you've made conflicting reports of your Elite Gamers competitive analysis!...posted in this topic speaking of the Elite Gamers you said "didn't impress me in Covington". But in a topic you created called Fall Tournament Updates, speaking of the Elite Gamers you said "they have a great hitting team".
You should go back and edit one of the two posts so we know your actual position on the club?...good or bad.
IMHO, Some of your posts are bordering on disrespect to young men who are giving maximum effort on the field. It's not fair to any children to receive blasts by men who aren't even coaching other children on the field. We all know Dads want their sons team to win every game and be acknowledged for their successes, but we can celebrate our children's accomplishments without sounding off on the young men they compete against.
I'm as opinionated as anyone and have posted less than positive statements about clubs, coaches, etc...but I do try to substantiate it with fact-based information. We all should hold ourselves accountable and remember children get online as well. Reference opinions with information, otherwise it's heckling fan banter. |

AA17Dad, there seems to be some mistaken identity on my part. I think I've figured out who you are. I had thought you were one of a couple of people but you are none of them. I might have been a little defensive on here but just trying to stick up for our new team because that's what you're supposed to do. Your son could definitely play with us anytime and we would be lucky to have you guys. Hope there are no hard feelings. See you in the spring. |
