Me and my family are relocating to the Cobb County area and my son has played baseball since he was 6. He has played D1/AAU/American Legion travel ball with many good teams.
I have seen many tryout posts on this web site under the 14u Openings tab, but need some help narrowing things down.
Do many kids play up in GA? Some of the best kids in NY play with older kids to get better.
There are many baseball academy teams in NY also and they tend to be the better teams. I know East Cobb has an excellent reputation but are all the team really that good? Is there a fee to join the East Cobb Baeball Academy? I'd like as many objective opinions on the some of the better programs or academy teams.
East Cobb baseball Academy - which teams? Roadrunners - I see they are run by x-MLB Paul Byrd 643 DP Baseball Academy - What is their reputation? Winward Academy - Does Brian McCann teach here?
You didn't mention specifically how old your kid is, but there is typically a general tryout to play for teams within East Cobb Baseball (ECB). Some kids do play up - most don't. Find out when the tryout date is for your son's age group, get him registered and show up ready to play. There is a tryout/registration fee. You'll be contacted by a coach after the tryout, but be proactive and ask around. Check their website.
As for non-ECB teams you mentioned, the Roadrunners 13u - now rising 14u - are coached by for major leaguer Paul Byrd and they are very good. He is an excellent pitching coach, BTW. The rising 13u Roadrunners are also very good. They all play out of Alpharetta and use ex-Cub Michael Barrett's facility. Howie McCann is Brian McCann's dad and he runs the Windward Rangers club also out of Alpharetta. They have their own indoor facility as well. 6-4-3 DP are out of Marietta and is run by Danny Pedralgo. I hear Cecil Fielder has a new team out of Smyrna called Knockhouse.
You can't go wrong with any of the teams you mentioned, but be advised, competition is fierce. Good luck!
