My son is making this move and for summer ball he was told high school ball only, no travel ball. Also, high school coaches are wanting to get a one sport commitment from players. Are the days of 3 sport athletes over?

I'd find another school.

Three sport athletes are the exception and not the rule these days.

One more thing: According to GHSA rules, that coach can't do that. In fact, during the summers, a coach can't require a kid to do a single thing. Now, he can "reward" those who do, but he technically can't penalize a kid for not playing high school summer ball. I realize that this is a losing battle for the players and parents, but as a former high school head coach, I know for a fact that that coach is violating a GHSA rule by saying what he said.

Of all the topics, this one saddens me the most. I think HS coaches should be recommending their players play as competitively as they can during the summer and should look to play at least one additional sport to allow them to work other muscles and stay more balanced and athletic.

I get concerned about coaches that give advice to the contrary.

Well I guess we are lucky at Cherokee High. The football coach encourages other sports, and the baseball coach helps out the football team.

Alter you hit dead on the nailhead

Not only work the other muscles how about too the added relationships with other kids who play the other sports and the added life skills those different sports bring ?

Just going too far with this heavy handed play my sport only demand we as parents and grandparents have gotta stand up to it maybe over at the district board of education ?

We OWN our school systems with county taxes ya know !

Best to all.
