I’m hoping for a good handshake; a clear and direct relay of his name; and maybe a little basic conversation. The handshake is very important to me. I test hand strength and I also analyze a young man’s feel in a social setting with older individuals. If he doesn’t present a firm grip, I simply mention it to him and mention that the handshake doesn’t necessarily affect his ability; but it “may” have a bearing on his ability to handle a wood bat during the dog days of August. Most of the successful Major League hitters that I know, all have Vice Grips for hands. They don’t choke the bat, but they have the hand strength to wield it with authority.
