Posted - 03/06/2013 : 09:42:42 When seeding using Win-Loss record as the first criteria, how are ties factored in? Does a team with a record of 1-1-0 automatically get seeded higher than a team with a 0-0-2 record? Are they the same win percentage so you need to move to the next seeding criteria? Certainly 0-0-2 seeds higher than 0-2-0. |

This is the correct way to seed after 2 pool play games.
Wins are seeded 1st: 2-0-0 - 2 wins 1-0-1 - 1 win - tie is better than a loss 1-1-0 - 1 win - 1 loss.
No wins are seeded next: 0-0-2 - no loss 0-1-1 - one loss 0-2-0 - 2 losses (look at the loss column, from top to bottom it goes- 0 - 1 - 2) |

Posted - 03/07/2013 : 10:48:37 Rick, I think you swapped these two up. Your description is right but the the wins/losses/ties are backwards.
This is what you had: 1-1-0 - 1 win - tie is better than a loss 1-0-1 - 1 win - 1 loss.
This is what you meant, I believe: 1-0-1 - 1 win - tie is better than a loss 1-1-0 - 1 win - 1 loss.

Generally, it goes wins - losses - ties. |

Posted - 03/06/2013 : 21:41:42 I think a little more clarity from TDs would help. The statement "First criteria is Win-Loss" does not tell you if they mean highest winning percentage (1-1-0 = 0-0-2) or if they mean most wins/least losses (1-1-0 seeds higher than 0-0-2 which seeds higher than 0-1-1). |

Posted - 03/06/2013 : 15:54:22 LLH is right. Anyone seeding differently is doing it incorrectly. It seem wrong, but a tie is a half win and a half loss, so they have the same record as a 1-1 team. Next tie breaker usually comes runs allowed.

A tie counts as 1/2 a win and 1/2 a loss.So the team that went 1-1-0 would have the same record. Meaning you should go to the next tie breaker which is usually runs allowed.
If this is the case the 0-2 team should have been seeded higher. Someone boo booed. |

Not in my experience... 1-1 seeds higher in most formats than 0-0-2.
Most tournaments seeds based on ... 1.Most Wins 2.Least Losses
And ties do not come into play...Meaning 1-1 has 1 win... 0-0-2 has no wins...
Therefore 1-1 seeds higher..
When comparing no win teams....0-0-2 has no losses...0-2 has 2 losses...therefore...0-0-2 seeds higher than 0-2 or 0-1-1 |
