What do you guys think about PG going away from gamechanger to Diamondkast and the 40 bucks per year fee?
Anyone buying? |

If it worked, I'm ok with the $40 cost. I like to "watch" the games when I can't get away from work. On busy days, it takes too long to refresh. Today I had to sign in over and over again every few minutes.
Some of the PG guys do a good job scoring the games. Many do not. Last week, zero errors, everything was a hit for both teams, despite two dropped fly balls and ground balls through the legs. If the are going to keep statistics, great, but they need to be accurate.
I think this was released before it was ready. Bring back Game Changer while the bugs are worked out. |

So I'm trying this diamondkast thing this week. Either the game scorer each game has little clue about how to score plays or the diamondkast itself has no clue.
2 1/2 games so far. Hits scored on force outs. 3 times Wrong players in lineup spots/pitching Description like 'Double, Ground to P' on same ball in play. 2 times. Forced out sac bunt, scored as a hit Forced out sac bunt, scored as a sac. Sac bunt scored as an out to batter. As in no sac but advanced runner e-6 on a one hop line drive that knocked the SS down basically single on the roller between SS legs
2 1/2 game opinion? Garbage in, Garbage out.
But I do guess the pitch count is somewhat accurate and the velos too? |

Renegade same issues here... the velo seems to be the only thing accurate, and who knows if that is...
Super high tournament cost, high parking, high entry, high food, high online game viewing... How long before PG isnt worth it? |

i blame the scorer most of the time. i have lost count of the number of times a player safely reaches first base and the scorer does not post a hit or an error -- very frustrating stat-wise for the pitcher and/or the batter.

And another. Wild pitch. 3 runs score??? I'm sure more happened than that. Like maybe the double on the next pitch that got no rbi recorded possibly? Just saying.
Or Sac Fly SF-9 Fly to RF. Double Play (runner out at home)
Yeah uhmm no, that's not a sac fly if the runner is out advancing home.
So what real good is this data if its basically nonsense random garbage? |

I would suggest everyone have a Game Changer account recording the game as well. That way if there is a messed up stat you can email staff@perfectgame.org with any corrections. I did this a couple days after the tourney when I realized his pitching stats were wrong, like WAY wrong. I sent an email, explained who the kid was, what/where the event was and sent the Game Changer name for the team so they could find the game and it was fixed within 24 hours. |

I did the same and my kids velocity went from 66 to 82. I also lowered his whip from 3.99 to 1.15, scouts and recruiters should be calling any minute now. |

Having had the opportunity to score a couple of games for PG in the most recent WWBA, I can tell you that I hope the program is still a work in progress. There are many key strokes to do one item on certain plays. The meat and potatoes is there but not all the side dishes. I will give you some for instances. For everyone pitch you have to place touch where the location was, touch the velocity, touch weather it was a ball or strike in play out in play not an out. If the ball is put in play on an out you have to touch ground/fly/pop/etc., runner complete then drag the player to where it was hit to, if it was hit on the ground you have to show where it was hit to, say for instance shortstop, it then gives you an option of 6-3 for a put out. On a hit you have to do the same as above, type of hit, where it was hit to, single/double etc, if there is runners on base you the runners only move up one base on a single then you have to manually move them up after that. On run scoring plays you have to confirm the run, confirm if it was an RBI or not.
This is where it gets difficult and needs some help. When there is runners on base and pitchers throws over, there is no place to put that, when a pitcher throws over and either throws it away or the fielder commits the error you can give the error but it doesn't give it to anyone. On FC it is very difficult unless it is a true force if it is a tag out FC you have to move the runner manually towards the bag and stop him short until it shows tagged out. On certain plays it doesn't give you the option to continue, say a runner on first and batter up, batter bunts to third to move runner to second (sac) runner tries to advance to third but is thrown out after the batter is out at first. The application doesn't allow you to show the runner getting thrown out at third and by whom.
All in all the HS game is very fast paced and there can be a lot of key strokes to complete one play, which in turn can lead to the next batter. If you can't keep up you will miss pitches plays etc. If it wasn't for someone else sitting beside me a couple times writing down velos and pitches it is very easy to miss pitches and plays. I can see why some scorekeepers are taking short cuts.
Input of the game to start up is easy as long as the rosters are pre-entered. The problem arises when a coach doesn't tell you about pitching or player field or batting changes or if he makes multiple moves at one time. When doing a substitution for the team in the field mid=inning it lets you move one player at a time then reverts back to the team batting, then you have to hit the fielding team again to make the next substitution. To track pitch count you also have to toggle to another side screen to see pitch count for each pitcher.
The system has its quirks like GC did when it was first introduced, but it is an application that everyone could use. This one is brand new, us scorekeepers get very little training prior to operating the system. There may be short cuts that we are not aware of to help us score better and quicker. Time will tell.

Dgersh22 PLEASE email PG with your problems on DK. They are trying to improve it but they need real world examples of the difficulties involved in scoring a game.

If people do not care about the stats on gamechanger then why use it? Isn't that what gamechanger is for? |

Most people that I know use gamechanger to keep up with the games that they are unable to attend. Once the kids start playing the week long Perfect Game events it is hard to remain gainfully employed and attend every game. Parents and even grandparents use Gamechanger to simply watch or keep up with games.
Diamondkast would be difficult to do that as the score keeping doesn't make sense and they don't do a very good job of keeping up with substitutions. I thought it was terrible when it was free and would definitely not pay for it. |

It is for family and friends to follow a kid or team when they can't be at the game. How many times must we beat this dead horse. Scouts/recruiters are not interested in it. |
