What attracts the so called “better” players to a specific team? History of the Team? Coaches? Friends? Parents?
Most kids/parents have a goal to play on a particular team before they get there, but what would make anyone change or go in a different direction? Does it matter once the package is offered or told of what type of coaching, instruction the player is going to receive, does that make an impact, or is everyone stuck on ONE team(s) and nobody else is good or better than that?
Your thoughts?

I think that about 20% of kids change teams every year. You name the reasons but the biggest one is parents think they should play a different position or bat higher in the order. Your elite teams have there pick then everybody builds from there. Most parents want the same thing (Shortstop and #3 hitter) As kids get older and mature elite players end up on a mid-level team because they flew under the radar. But not for long the Elite teams will come calling and the Elite teams just get better. Then the bottom player is cut and ends up on a mid-level team. Vicious cycle. quote:

| Some are looking for better/preferred playing time or opportunities, but more and more I think (maybe hope) we are really looking for better coaching and a team that actually does what they promise on the front end. Coach the kids on solid baseball fundamentals, get them ready for HS ball, and teach them some life lessons along the way. Simple concept - do what you say are going to do, simple game - work hard and play fundamentally solid, the results are a good experience, a better ball player and maybe some memorable experiences to one day share with their child. That is all we ask as parents - some teams do execute on this premise, but many miss the real point. Don't we all just want our child to experience what we remember about baseball when we were young. |

1. Winning Record of team. ( everyone wants to win. )
2. Good coaches ( not ego driven, power trippen guys that think the game is more about them than the boys and families on the team. Side note to this is that some of the best recruiters often fall into this category and you may not figure it out until it's too late.
3. Families, If you have been traveling awhile you know who you want to hang-out with. Same for teamates.
4.Team stability. If you look at a teams roster over the years and it is for the most part the same line up. They are doing somthing right ( this could also work against any certain player as these teams usually have specific needs. Your kid may be better than some. If he is a 1st baseman and the team already has 3 of them...)
5. Location and Badging ( ECB, Home Plate ect. ) it is superficial but folks still like to be apart of a program. |

A kid at the age of 10 who has been in the RRec/allstar league grows several inches and get a lot stronger. He hen jumps to a mid level travel team. By the end of the year he has turned into a stud. He flew under the radar. It happens alot from age 10-13. Hope this explains it.quote:

Thx for explaining. I totally agree and absolutely love to see this when it happens. I don't believe kids all have to jump into travel at age 8 or 9, even though we did. All-stars can be a blast if the situation is right. We just never got the right situation after T-Ball, so moved on. I know of a few kids right now that will surprise this season in 11u that have not played travel yet, or maybe just a few games this past Fall. 1 of these boys is playing this weekend in his 1st real Spring tourney. Wait to you guys get a load of this kid. Maybe the purest hitter I've seen in this age group, not most powerful, just make totally solid contact time after time.
