Hello all! Does a team need to have their players birth certificates on hand at all events they play in and if so do they have to be the original birth certificates? Thanks! |

I would. The more information the better. If I have them and don't need them so be it. We have a binder full of all our information that we carry to every event. |

Yes...Birth certificates are needed at most all tournaments these days...you just have to have them with you. If another team protest the age of one of your players, you will need it to prove he is eligible to play at the age level you are playing..Doesn't happen often but does happen. Some tournament directors will look at them before the tournament starts but most just want you to have them for protests.
Copies are usually the norm...but if it looks tampered with..an original may be requested. |

If you are new to travel ball, someone will need to have a copy of your team's insurance on hand as well. Some tournaments also require that you have a player roster signed by the parents as well. Other tournaments have you enter your roster online. The form usually has a statement that you will not hold the park or tournament responsible for any accidents or injuries that occur while playing. |

jaguar, You are right. The last thing I would want is an original of someone's BC.
We lost a tournament in Tennessee about 5 years ago because one parent forgot to send a BC with their kid. We were in the semi-finals and thumping a team. They protested the one kid that forgot his BC. The worst thing is the Asst. Coach on the opposing team knew the kid and knew he was not illegal. We had the parent on the way with the BC but the TD would not wait. The part that burned us is the TD did not make the opposing team put up the protest fee. The opposing parents and players just stood there and yelled "Cheaters!!!"
We were really irritated but our coach admitted he was in the wrong for not having all of them before we started playing. It was a hard lesson to learn, but I will never start the first game without BC's in hand. |

Agree 100%, originals would be a recipe for disaster, but copies are a must.

I keep copies of all the team's BCs in one of the pockets of my son's catcher's bag. We don't ussually need them, but I carry the set of copies, just in case. |

From a parental aspect, I keep a copy of the BC for all the family members in the glove box for both our vehicles. I don't want to be somewhere and a team my son or daughter is playing for gets caught without one for them. It is too easy of a thing to do to alleviate any problems for my kids. |

In the past I have always kept multiple copies of both grandson's birth certificates in the vehicles running approximately 50 copies several years ago. The 11U that plays with the Bandits used to get questioned almost every weekend when he was bigger but now that he has slimmed down and with the other kids catching up he gets protested very rarely now. I still have copies in all the vehicles in case you want to try. |
