Here are the things we're trying:

1) Player sponsorships. Even your great aunt can send $5. If each kid get 5 friends/relatives to send $10, that's $500. Go here to see how we're positioning it: http://www.miltonnationals.com/Player_Sponsors.html

2) iPod Touch raffle. Each kid sells ten $10 raffles. We make $1,000, less the $200 cost and we net $800.

3) Team garage sale. We're going to have families come to a church parking lot one Saturday in April and will sell all their junk, proceeds going to the team.

4) Tournament. We expect to net about $1k by hosting a tournament in May.

Would love to hear other ideas. We're scrambling for contributions.

I asked this same question about a month or so ago. A lot of families and businesses are struggling. It is tough to get a sponsor right now unless it is someone you know well. Most people suggested a Texas Holdem /Poker raffle. We always do the Yard Sale every Spring and we do fairly well, but you need to advertise in local papers/craigslist etc. A good tournament would probably make the most money, but we can't do that since we play out of a public park because we would have to get approval from the county and the association, etc.

One idea to think about is hosting a gold party for your team. Parents can sell old or broken jewelry with the proceeds going to them. A certain portion of the sales will be set aside to a charity or organization like a team. My wife and daughter have held parties for church and school groups generating good results for them. So not only do the parents raise money for expenses you can raise money for the team. The price of gold is very high right now generating good money. The party can be over in just a few hours.

The ESPN the magazine fundraiser is pretty good, no minimums and you keep 75% of each 2 yr subscription sold, or $30 per subscription back to the team.
