Thinking of playing in a training legends tourney on 4-29. Do they usually run good events?

Our 10u Team has enjoyed their tournaments.

Umpires have been a problem at times, but overall they are pretty good events for the money.

Also looks like Travelball Select has a tourney that same weekend. I've heard good things about TbS but don't have any first-hand experience. Pricing is pretty much the same as TL, but TbS tourney has a 4-game min. and is played at the East Cobb Complex. (TL is a 3-game min. and will be played all over East Cobb -- the county, not the complex.)

Besides this one week (4 GG), TbS is always about HALF price of TL, plus TbS game times are longer (older age groups), and are almost always AT East Cobb (complex-- not some little league field).

TbS is great bang for buck, has good umps, and the TD's are easily accessible and willing to please!

they advertised ecb and never had it...not a good thing to do and it tried to undermine the guy who did have it IMO

They had a snarky ump at one event. Refused to read a rule he was wrong on but that could happen anywhere

I wouldn't judge any event or organization based on umpires.

I was at a JV High School game where the umps strike zone was about 4 inches x 4 inches. Between both sides there were 25 walks...I felt like I was back at 9u!

Why not? Wouldn't you judge a restaurant on its wait staff?

I said why I wouldn't judge an organization on its umpires above.

I also don't judge restaurants on their wait staff....was the place clean, when I had a problem did the manager handle it, was the food good...this is what I judge a restaurant on...come to think of it it's kind of how I judge baseball parks too :- )

We have enjoyed the events there. I noticed TL employees walking around. Parks were nice, games on time. No issues with umps and scoreboards worked! I liked being able to follow teams and scores on the Tourney App.

Much better then other tourneys I have been too.

Mother Nature happens... Prioritizing will always hurt feelings... Kudos to any TD's that tried/attempted/or did have games played yesterday. Based on the couple of local tourneys, Training Legends and TravelBall Select, I'd have to say both did a good job with the hand they were dealt.

Based on the 'notes' the TD released for TL, ~78% of the teams entered got their 3rd game... Of course that leaves ~22% upset they didn't... So, should the TD have thrown his hands up and say, forget it, and not do for the 78%?

Based on the 'notes' the TD released for TbS, ALL played their 3rd game, but times were shortened to 1 hour... I imagine some games (based on some scores) didn't last more than a couple of innings. I'm sure plenty felt 'ripped off' they didn't get full game times...

Fact is, the TD's lease the fields, and sometimes the decisions as to whether the fields get used or not (after rain), isn't in their hands. East Cobb could have told TbS "No games Sunday"... Or Cobb Co. could have said the same to TL. So often times, while the TD gets mud on his face, the decision is out of his hands.

ANY credit or refund given, should be appreciated-- especially when it's specifically written that none is to be given. Sure, one could say give me 1/2 my gate fee back, PLUS 1/3 credit of the entry fee, but again, that's unrealistic.

Finally, umpires aren't organization specific-- I do not believe. Meaning, TL doesn't just use same umps... They may use a company or group or whatever that has a pool of umpires, but it may be the same as TbS, TC, USSSA, and PG use... Bad ones are going to happen. Period.

agree with turntwo on this, directors' costs are sunk as soon as they play that first game each day, I think TL was very fair. I'm very happy to have other options to TC and USSSA besides teams' fundraising tournaments.
