| So how many teams do yall have your son try out for? How do yall feel about trying out for a few teams? |

We didn't try out for any other teams because we were totally satisfied with our current team. If we were not, we would have tried out for every team w/in a 30-minute drive from our home. You never know when Coaches change, field time changes, talent levels change, ect.. You have to go to the tryouts to keep track of these issues.

| The more the better. Not only is it a good experience but it gives you and your player more options. It will let you pick which team you feel will benefit the player the best. If you try out for one and don't make it then what. If you try out for one and make it you could find out the team isn't what you had expected. Do some research on the coaches and try out for several teams. |

You have to keep one thing in mind, if the coach wants you, he knows you are good enough for someone else to want you. He is not going to be happy that you are choosing another team, but if your rationale is legitimate, you won't burn a bridge. If you just say "we think the other team will be better." then he may not give you as much consideration next time.
It is all in how you deal with the situation.
Treat it like you are looking for a new job. Would you just interview with one company, and see that through, before moving on to another one or would you send resume's in to multliple companies and try to interview in parallel? If in parallel, what would you do if you got offers from both companies? |

I assume you mean, the player turns down one of the coaches, would that coach be upset...Disappointed, sure, but how many kids are not offered a spot on a team and have to go try-out for another team? Now if they accept a position, and then try-out for another team and make it, and then turn down the 1st team, instant drama, even if a valid reason....
What is the best way to research coaches, if new to the area? Who are the best coaches that develop kids? 10u speciifcally... |

Just be up front with them and let them know that you are looking at other teams.
Some coaches may get offended...that would be your first clue to play elsewhere.
Its all about finding a good match for your son and your family.
You may make the team and then find out the schedule doesn't suit you.
There are other things to be considered when picking a player or team. The try out is just the first step. |

| Always a good to thing to be able have choices. You and your player make the decision that you think best fits him; skill level of players, coaches, etc. If a coach doesn't understand that you are doing what is best for your player, oh well. If think every coach believes he can be helpful someway, idealist not realist. Get out there and be seen and see the landscape, good luck. |

Sure, the Coach you don't choose will be disappointed. Coaches want the best talent. Show the Coach as much respect as possible (dont forget the obvious of thanking him for choosing your son), and decline his team in a timely manner (w/in 24 hrs of the offer) so he can offer the next player down the line. NEVER burn bridges. Make sure your choice is your sons choice too if you feel he is mature enough to choose.
I just began letting my son decide which team he plays for in 10u, and its worked out well for us. At the outset, the boys tend to pick teams that have the most players they know from school, or other sports. I've noticed that factor becomes increasingly important as they reach 11u and 12u.
