Been reading these boards for quite some time trying to learn about the baseball setup in the Atlanta area. Looking at relocating to the area, and would really value any input from some of you who are familiar with it.
Played in the Elite 32 and saw Yard Dogs and Gamers, are these teams some of the top ones in the area? How do the East Cobb teams compare to these guys? Haven't seen an East Cobb team in action, but know a little about the program from reading on here and seeing the name come up in the draft.
Would the East Cobb area be the best spot for someone with a majors level youth player in 10u/11u range to check out first? Thinking long-term.
Thanks very much, really appreciate any input. |

Gamers are solid at most age groups.
In the north metro, you have East Cobb (varies by age and team), 643, GA Jackets (14U+), Roadrunners (13U+), further north you have Team Elite....
More options north of Atlanta, but some decent ones south. (Gamers, Foundation, HomePlate). |

See post by bballman guy under "academy team comparison" thread...sums it up and these programs are the only real majors programs in the "east cobb" area. Depends on what age "youth" you are talking about. Only 3-4 of the ecb teams under 13 will actually be competitve in the "majors" division and even that varies by age group and year to year. |

Be careful to not assume that where the park headquarters are located that that is where the team practices. That's not always true.
Marietta/Kennesaw = Titans, 643, ECB
Alpharetta/Roswell = Roadrunners, Georgia Jackets, one or 2 ECB teams, some of the Team Elite
Winder = Team Elite
Atlanta = Home Plate
While your 10 year old may currently live and breath baseball, I would estimate that over 50% of the kids that play at 10u aren't playing by 16u. When considering a move I would encourage you to focus on the schools first.

Thanks! After reading it again, I want to double check, the Astros and Colts would be the higher level EC teams at the 10u/11u level? Understand that this could vary by year but trying to get a general idea. Is it safe to assume the professionally coached teams are made up of the majors level players? Thanks again, appreciate your time. |

Thanks for the link, definitely appreciate it and agree! Helpful to see your list with locations, thanks. Jobs will probably dictate location for us but it would likely be north, though we are accustomed to traveling for baseball so anywhere within an hour or so would work. Do you know off-hand if any of the north teams have paid coaches at the 10-12u level? thanks again |

Yes Astros is typically number 1, or near to the number 1, team at ECB in all age groups. Colts usually at, or right behind, Astros. But I surely wouldn't move with hopes of being an Astro, esp for a 9 or 10 year old. In all likelihood this will be a COMPLETELY different team even at or 11 or 12, let alone 13 and up. Yes Astros and Colts SHOULD be the best teams but no guarantee. Also tougher (though not impossible) to make those teams as a complete unknown to the park or coaches. And there are 2 colts in the younger age groups I believe, starting this year, not sure which is the A team. B team may or may not be successful at majors. There are also always a few teams in the younger ages that are successful at majors that are not professionally coached. Not sure if the astros and colt teams younger than 11 are pro coaches. May just be 11 and up. Hopes this helps! Confusing I know! |

There really is no "general" idea. Astros "program" has looked different every year for the past several years.
This upcoming year, some of the staff from Nelson Baseball School has moved over to ECB and has taken over the Astros/Colts program at the younger ages to a large extent. Remains to be seen how good the Colt program will be.....Astros teams will always be a strong Major contender.
That's not to say that you can't find non-professionally coached teams at ECB that are very well coached and who compete at a Major or even Elite major level. In fact, there are some non-professionally coached teams at ECB that will be as good as, or better than, professionally coached teams. You just have to do your homework to figure out which ones (and then, at this point in the year, to hope that they're not full).

Define NORTH. Winder, Cartersville north, or anywhere north of Atlanta? |

Some of the former Nelson coaches have taken over the Colt 45 teams but I do not believe they have any involvement with any of the Astros teams. |

Really anywhere north of atlanta that could be reached without driving into the city traffic. Used to driving over an hour to practice so hopefully that opens up quite a few options. Thanks again

Thanks for the details, they are very helpful. Agreed about moving with that in mind, employment is the primary reason for us to look at ATL area, but baseball is a close second. Would be happy to be in a position to play these teams a few times a year at the least. Currently live in an area with no majors teams and doing a great deal of travel to play. Thanks again, appreciate your input.
