Astros Team East Cobb
Typically the kids from EC that tried out for the Astros that didn't quite make it. |

Actually, that would be more like the Colts team (the kids who tried out for Astros but didn't quite make it).
My understanding is that ATEC had nothing to do with the ECB Astros. In fact, while they initially advertised as Astros Team East Cobb, they quickly and quietly removed the Astros part from their posts. |

^^^^^^correct... ATEC is completely unrelated to either academy team, Colts or Astros. |

Depends on who is running the ATEC. I believe Baldwin was running that program last year not sure this year. I suspect that marketing the Astros name created some buzz but as others have already posted it is not the ECB Astros or even the Colt 45s.
The top 2 ECB teams at 15u were very good teams but the talent level of the other teams were not in the same league. As other threads have already mentioned it is the dilution of talent due to too many teams. Nothing wrong with kids of varying levels wanting to play but the the result is more teams that are not as competitive as they could be if there were fewer teams.
At the older age groups the rosters will get bigger and playing time will be a challenge for many. Hard choices for many families, join a "better" team and possibly win more games? However, Johnny is not as good as you think he is and he is a role player on that "better" team. Or join a non "top tier" team where Johnny, will be a major contributor but have no chance of bracket play at Perfect Game tournaments.

ATEC is the old East Cobb Eagles. You can see the name in the link and it takes you to their page if you hit the link. As stated above, it has nothing to do with either Academy team, Astros or Colts. It's probably why you don't see Astros in their name anymore due to the confusion. |

That clears it up! And from those sites it seems only 16U and 17U for Astros ATEC vs. a multitude of age groups for Eagles ATEC? |

Guess they didn't read the thread about not using the names of preexisting well known teams. How many Titans, Giants, Astros, and Braves does the Metro Atlanta area need? |

Tolley Lovejoy coached the "A"TEC team last year & this year. After main season ended he helped the Eagles w/ their highschool team and looks like he is keeping that affiliation w/ them (coaching staff on the Eagles website). "TEC" is most likely the Astro B team now, and dropped the A to have a different name. And FYI, the Eagles came to ECB last year from WPB in Canton, that's their base of coaches. They we brought in by the past Padres/Team Wilson coach that left the park this year. Now the Colt's were able to fill the 17/18u slot this past summer to round out that brand. To make things very confusing (and the fact that they had a large roster), they entered into a couple of 16u tourneys for the younger players on the team. Well, just so happened Hightower's 16u Colt's were also in same tournament (can't imagine that set well). So yeah, like somebody else suggested, the ECB team structures change each season..u gotta just keep asking around to stay current! quote: At the older age groups the rosters will get bigger and playing time will be a challenge for many. ^^^Very true insight! Seems like we are facing this juncture and as I reflect on the past 3, what we thought were going to be, "top tier" teams paid for, I don't recall any of them making it to PG bracket plays, hmmm. |

It is my understanding the 16u Atec will be basically the 15u ECB Cardinals from last year. Between Eagles and ATEC the Eagles will be the A team and ATEC the B team.

And the younger age groups there is no affiliation whatsoever with the Astros apparently from what I understand. |

At 16u I see Atec Orange being registered for tourneys and Astros Team East Cobb. So evidently they are using the Astros name. |
