Can you guys share your experience going from the parent coached team to an instructor coached team? Was there more or less politicing? And how did your child develop throughout the season and did they seem to enjoy it more?
The one significant change was I felt like the dad coaches were approachable, not that I wanted to tell them how to run things but they were just friendly and easy going. If I had a conflict and needed help with my son they would offer a sleepover or to give them a ride to the game...things like that. We were almost friends.
The paid coaches are being paid and are there to do a job. Most do it well, and your kid will learn, but that paid coach is more like their boss and not a long lost uncle.
It's a transition but worth it if your kid wants to play more competitive baseball.
Most coaches i have been involved with who were hired were there before the kids got to the team. i have seen where the parents of a travel team did a search and hired one and it was a nightmare as an academy coach sounded real good to them and then did nothing to help the team other than show up and talk on cell phone and eventually sent some kids he hired to help out. Rent a coach LOL
