The Sandtown Redsox won the USSSA 10U state tournament. They played real well and pounded the baseball the whole tournament and played great defense. Congratulations to all the teams in the tournament and their coaches, each team was well prepared and showed great sportsmanship.
Papa also congratulates my Sandtown friends. One of my biggest dissappointments this year is that we have not had the opportunity to play Sandtown yet. The Bandits have the utmost respect for this great baseball team and look forward to the challenge when we do get to play.
When the announcement is made that Sandtown and the Bandits are fixing to get it on someone get a bull horn and let all the folks know that the best 10U baseball game of the year is fixing to happen.
Moser has talked of what a SUPER ELITE GEORGIA TEAM WOULD LOOK LIKE. Come watch this game and you would certainly see the core group of the best players in the State on the field together. I can't even imagine how good this Georgia team would be if we took all of the great players that the Bandits have seen this year. I really can't even imagine how you could pick just one team because I have seen at least 2 SUPER ELITE TEAMS that could be formed from the teams we have played.
So glad i came out to watch the final 4-5 games this weekend. Sandtown came to play this weekend. Great D, great sticks and went on a great role. Their coach showed 643 a lot of class and respect after the game noting how 643 played 10 games throughout the tournament and ran up against a charged up sandtown team. Sandtown was the class of the tournament but a lot of teams showed great fight including: Scorpions NYO Both Home plate teams Holly Springs Wills Park What a year by the 10U division! I think there will be a lot of good baseball for us to watch over the next 8 years from these kids. ECB did a great job with the tournament and lived up to the reputation as one of the premier organizations in the south!
Shut Out: I agree completely about the ECB organization but its frustrates me to no end that I could not find out anything until the tournament was over as to the scores and the quality of the games.
Do you not agree that USSSA is doing a less than lousy job with updating the scores and keeping the fans posted on a tournament with this type of elite teams that hundreds if not thousands of people are wanting to know. I wouldn't even mind reading some ads first if I could get to the scores.
This is nothing against East Cobb as I 100% agree that this is best venue in Georgia to play youth baseball and I do not feel that posting scores would come under their jurisdiction but someone can correct me if I am wrong.
Papa I do agree about USSSA. The way i now view USSSA they are basicallly a title name for tournaments that are run by a host team. They seem to play absolutely no role in the tournament what so ever. When TC has a tournament Tony and gang are at every field overseeing what goes on and the same goes for USTBA and Nations Baseball. So when i gave my props to ECB it was basically saying it was their tournament and just happened to have a USSSA name attached to it whether USSSA deserved it or not.
Please help me. Sandtown plays 6 games. 643 plays 10 games in the same tournament. When you drop to the losers bracket you have to make up one maybe two games, not three and four that's crazy. 643 played 15 games in a week and some days as a 10year old team.
I believe that 643 lost the first round of bracket play pushing them into the losers bracket and they had to fight their way out and Sandtown played all the way through the winners bracket therefore playing less games. I do agree that this is just way too unfair although knowing Sandtown the way I think I do I don't think it would have made much difference.
I really love the double elimination format better than any other but I do not think you should play but 1 or 2 pool games prior to beginning the double elimination. I really feel that pure double elimination would do the trick but most tournaments want to promise at least 3 games in order to have more teams enter.
The more we play the more the more tournament directors should find out what we like and we will see more tournaments set up better.
This is exactly why the Bandits did not enter this tournament coming out of the Triple Crown State. We won the TC playing 7 games and if we had followed the 643 route in USSSA we would have played 17 games in 9 days. I am sure that 643 has some very sore arms about right now with Cooperstown coming up. I hope that they recover quickly and look forward to seeing all of our Georgia friends in Cooperstown.
I was talking to some of the 643 guys during their saturday games and even though they admitted it was going to be a tough fight they said they are hoping that having to play that many games may help them in Cooperstown where they could have to play as many as 4 games in a day once bracket play starts. If it wasn't so expensive I would love to fly up there and watch and cheer for the GA teams in Cooperstown. Looking at the Cooperstown list it appears GA is well represented with the Bandits, 643, ECB Scorpions & Tigers and the NGA Cougars. My son has already figured out how to watch on the web and he told me for the first time he can't wait to cheer for all these GA teams that he has competed against to over the last 2 years.
