Thanks for the info on the Diablos as my only recollection of them was from the Slugfest.

I agree about NYO, just figured they may need to get a tourney under their belt in order to gel.

Fear not, Mikewells, there will be many more wrong than just those two ... I can't wait until after the tourney is over so I can get all the replies telling me what a Donk I was on my picks.

Kudos to you for pointing out my errors before everything has played out...

Mike,

I was thinking the same thing. just because the Diablos havent been around this Spring doesnt mean they arent strong this summer. That pool is a dog fight. I will be interesting to see how the NYO Bulls fair. Looks like 7 or so from last years NYO Titans. They will probably struggle against the Vipers in pool play. If they Braves bring the team they had at the
Mazzone they will be tough also.

Mike,
While I agree that Diablo may not end up 0-3, I think 1-2 will be the best they do. I would swap them with the EC Warriors.

NYO will have some good players, as they always do, but I was under the impression that several of the good players had left and gone to Braves Baseball Club after last year. That should be a good matchup with both teams in the same pool.

Ok, I must have missed something. Why does pool H have 6 teams compared to 4 teams in all the other pools? Even with the odd number, I would have thought there would be two pools with 5 teams. Would that change some of the outcomes?

Diablos have won two tournaments lately, in Lagrange and then at Webb Bridge. Don't think they'll go winless. And a couple of weeks ago, the Buckshots beat Team Gwinnett and Crush in a qualifier.

Cobra-looks like Diamondbacks, Giants and Ga Yard Dogs. Played them in the fall. They had some kids who could sling it. And I think their best pitcher was playing football so we didnt see. I wouldnt take them for granted.

I don't think that the one NYO team struggled very much against Paulding County.

The Vipers still ended up winning the tournament. People make such a big deal over one game when in actuality, in a one game set, there are many teams that could beat one another.

Teams that are successful are ones that can utilize their pitchers throughout the course of the entire tournament, not just a pool game. (Not intended to diminish the accomplishment of the NYO Bulls in their victory.)

Congratulations to Hobgood Heat, who had a great tournament and made it to the Championship game. That is a tough feat with 9 players.

In the end, one pool play loss didn't seem to make much difference as the Vipers won when it counted most. Congrats to them for taking the gold and also to Hobgood for overcoming some recent speedbumps and making a nice run to the championship.

Congrats also to Diablos Baseball for capturing the silver division title by defeating the Powder Springs Seminoles.

Another well-ran tournament by the Triple Crown folks.
Tony, can you do anything about the traffic in Alpharetta???

Some key wins:

Pool Play:
*EC Warriors over EC Longhorns
*NYO Bulls over PC Vipers
*HP Chilidogs over PS Seminoles

Elimination Play:
*SP Wildcats over GA Crush
*Hobgood Heat over Team Gwinnett (not that Hobgood was a big underdog, just that it was key in getting them to the championship)
*5-tool Nationals over EC Longhorns (This is the 2nd time 5-tool has bested the Longhorns)

The Gresham Park Cobras did well in pool play, as well, going 3-0. They lost a close one, 7-6 to a very good Webb Bridge Team in elimination play.

What I hope everyone is seeing is all the great talent this age group has. I will argue that it has better talent, top to bottom, than the other age groups around it. Maybe there is bias involved, though.

First time I've seen the Vipers this year. They are as good as advertised.

Hats off to the Heat. They are scrappy and gutsy and it actually looked like they were having fun. The kids who pitched against the Vipers gutted it out and kept it fairly close for awhile. That was a situation ripe for a big blowout and it didn't happen.

Good baseball from Friday AM to Sunday PM.

The bigger win for Hobgood was the 1-0 win against Bulldog. 7 and 11 pitched their butts off like they were 16 years old against a team that can flat out hit top to bottom. Shutting out Bulldog is an amazing acccomplishment.

To add to Ego's post about key wins in pool play, how about pool H being turned upside down. And Diablos coming back to win the Silver.
