It would be the right thing to do, but I rarely see this, if ever. Most teams that fall into this group just pick a different name next year and choose a lower classification.
USSSA should move everyone down that has a win/loss average, in that class, below .350. That just says that a team is not ready to play at that level. |

| Last year, my son played for 11u Team Wilson. Started out a Major by USSSA's rule of former AAA players at 10U who were on the 2008 roster at 11U, and quickly realized we were not a Major team..losing handily to all major teams. Moved down to AAA and actually lost a close game to Centerfield Storm at USSSA Sub State (2nd) and won a close championship game against Elite Shockers for state title. AAA was where we should hae been the whole time. |

| Reminds me of a child I met at the water fountain at church one day. I asked little Stewart how his basketball team was doing. He replied "We stink". I knew that his Dad coached the team and asked if maybe the Coaching was not very good. Stuart replied "Mr. Dennis, Our Coaches are pretty good but our playwers "stink". From the mouth of a babe. |

Or as Bear Bryant said : good players make better coaches
there must be teams around who are in classifications where they dont belong.
how much fun or value is gained by getting clobbered every weekend , outclassed physically , possibly outcoached .
if usssa has some problem with holding those teams in where they dont belong then somewhere along the line they lost the concept that these are boys and young men playing a game. |

My sons team has been begging USSSA to reclass us for 2 years now with no luck. Because the team has carried 4 or more of the original players from year to year, we are stuck at Major even though we play at the AAA level.
Recently, we were told that if we play in a couple of USSSA tournaments and get crushed by Major level teams, we might be able to be reclassed. It has to be USSSA tournaments though.
Being classified Major has been a problem because we can't play in AAA tournaments and we can't compete in Major tournaments.

The problem with classifications mid-season is where do you draw the line?
When my oldest was playing 10U ball, his team was loaded with talent and was registered as Major. They would be in ALL games against the best of the major teams. The Majority of the losses were maybe one or two runs. (But they did have the occasional blow out by a weaker Major team.) By June, they quit playing all Major tournaments (dropped out of state) and started registering for AA tournaments, just to get TRY to get some Hardware. I am sure that coach would have petitioned to be AA if he was allowed. 
I can see a AA or AAA being moved up if they win their tournaments with no losses and it is obvious they are head and shoulders better than the other teams. If I was winning without any competition I would want to be moved up to play better teams.

USSSA rules state that any team with 4 players from the same team (prior year) gets the same qualification as their previous team. So theoretically you shouldn't be able to change team names and move down in class.
With that said, USSSA is becoming more irrelevant every day in North Georgia. There are too many other organizations with better events attracting the better teams such as Triple Crown and USTBA. I also see Nations-Baseball and AAU coming on strong in the next year. Hopefully USSSA will get their act together and increase the quality of their events. Otherwise this topic will be moot in 12 months. |

Reggie,
If you go to the Georgia USSSA site you will see a re-classification report tab along the left margin near the bottom. Open it up and page down to the very bottom and you'll see the rules.
My sons team lost 3 of its better players just before the season, so the AAA class became a stretch for us. We were ~.500 but not making it to any final 4's.
We played a few Open class tourneys to get a feel for where we belonged, then decided to ask for a move from AAA to AA. We won our 2nd AA tourney, and our boys were ecstatic because by playing their best, they were able to bring home some bling, and qualify for a World Series event that they can compete in.
We'll still play some open class local tourneys so our boys will get exposure to tougher teams, but when we play larger regional, or national, toruneys we'll play AA.
The flexibility of the USSSA system worked well for us given some difficult circumstances. We've played USSSA exclusively thus far.
The venues are an easier drive for us, and we've had mostly good experiences (when the weather cooperates).
I'm hoping our Coaches will try a USTBA tourney too.
p.s. special thanks to the 3 families who joined our team at the 11th hour and saved our season.
