Looking online at tournaments for 2009. In state, what tournaments look to be the most competitive in the Spring? USSSA Super NIT, and the Triple Crown events look like the only thing potentially big so far. Any teams announce plans to host top level 11U tournaments?

Out of state things look good. FYI the Cincy Flames are hosting an inaugaral Tournament of Champions for 11U during Fourth of July weekend. The 2009 11U are back to back CABA National Champs so they may draw a good crowd! Especially from the Midwest.

Triple Crown Border Wars III in North Carolina. Hoyas going! Virginia and North Carolina both have some strong teams, GBC is in that event too.

Knoxville Stars Annual tourney is the last weekend in May. They always draw well.

Battle In The South is in April, but right now site not listing committed teams. Of course it'll be strong!

This was quoted from someone else...

Once again, the Forsyth Slugfest USSSA NIT will be one of the largest preseason tournaments in the country. 50+ teams have already registered in the first month that registration has been open and we expect another sold out event of upwards of two hundred teams. For more info please visit the tournament website, http://eteamz.active.com/wareagleslugfest/index.cfm?

Last year in the 10u there were 30+ teams and it was rained out..Border Wars in Chattanooga. Tn is another large turn out. Kennesaw Xtream had a big turn out..You will just have to look at Eteamz and talk to the people that run these tournaments to see who is comming...

Based on what folks are saying, I would say the best teams are going to be playing outside of EC or the metro area.

Border wars in Tennessee is supposed to be good, but the fields/complex are trashy. Rumor has it that they charged a 3 day gate fee to everyone on Friday and would not allow a 1 day gate fee payment. The rains came and washed the tournament out. At least they got to keep the pre-advanced gate fees......

Some of the better Southeastern teams will be out of Virginia and Florida, but not sure where they will be playing collectively.

The EC tournaments are OK, but most have the same teams playing each other in every tournament and it gets old seeing the same teams over and over again............most just travel to EC and call themselves travel teams.

The Kennesaw tournament is a good one. Good for coaches (lounge area), good for parking (near the fields), and no gate fees (included in the tourney fees). It is also well organized each year.

The Slugfest shows 4 - 11U teams (Coal mtn. EC Seminoles?, N. Gwinnett Bulldogs, and Sharon Springs) right now. The last 2 years it has been miserable weather. 3 years ago, bad weather, but they played anyway.

Most of the time Invitational tournaments seem to be the best bet for competition at the same level. In other words, AAA teams don't invite Major teams and vice versa.

I believe most teams will be very careful in the tourney's they select this year because of the economic climate.

Good luck to the Hoyas!!

Now that is a tournament with legit teams! I wonder how many of those teams are going to actually pay for a spot? Looks good on paper.

Just my opinion, but only a handful of teams from GA should consider that one...else go home early. It will be interesting to see who has the backbone enough from the metro Atlanta area to inquire about playing down in Florida.

The weather should be great in April in Tampa.

The problem this year is that teams will be way more selective about their out of town trips. The economy will play a large role in that. Although that sure looks like an AWESOME group of teams. That would quite a feather in any ones cap if they could win that one.

In my years of doing this I have learned that you can't always believe the group of teams that are posted until much closer to the event. The old bait and switch at its finest.

My concern about the March tournaments in Georgia is inclimate, unpredictable weather. Youth baseball in the cold is not where it's at. I'd rather wait till end of March/beginning of April. Not much has surfaced in state from April on? Is the Spring National Championship @ ATPP an AAU event? ATPP a must play facility at least once during the season.

That Florida Elite event looks way strong! The director for that event is real cool and will run the event well. Like the fact that it's only 12 teams too, every game will matter. Too bad all teams will advance to bracket - it's a USSSA event. Doubt if any Georgia teams will go though, unfortunate!

Any Georgia teams going to Battle In The South?

Somebody put something together! Get all the Georgia "big boys" and us wannabes in an event! Right now I don't see any reason for any out of state heavyweights to come to Georgia for 11U baseball, other than the USSSA Super NIT's. Not coming for competition they'll be coming for the berths to Disney and USSSA Points.

The Georgia Roadrunners will be heading to the Battle in the South. It is always a very strong field and will be a great early season test.

The Astros had a very strong invitational put together last year but it was cold and spitting snow that weekend, so it was canceled. I think was actually the same weekend as the Forsyth Slugfest.

The Roadrunners will host a couple of invitation only events this year, although no dates are decided at this point. We will invite several of the top teams from Atlanta/Georgia and the surrounding states.
