Do any H.S. Dads read this forum? Any advice for those of us that are trying to use baseball to keep our sons out of trouble later on? Save me the "if the kid wants to find trouble" ... my kid's 9 and a great kid, just trying to see what its like looking back in time to see if I can learn anything.

All I can say is keep your kids in as many things as possible to occupy their time. Sports is just one example of keeping them busy and out of trouble. My son never road the bus home once in high school because he went from football to wrestling to spring football to baseball and summer baseball. Never was alone at home after school to get into too much trouble. I think the kids that get into trouble have too much time on their hands and friends influence plays a major role. Most kids involved with hs sports are good kids although there are exceptions. If your son doesn't turn out to be good enough to make his hs team find a league around and keep letting him play. Parents being involved is probably huge too and if you are putting in the time with him in baseball like it sounds like you are then he should be fine. Again anything can happen. I have seen girls, drugs and cars ruin more athletes than anything, all you can do is what you think is best and hope they make the right decisions. Sounds like you have it right though, it isn't about being drafted by the braves or getting a college scholarship, it's about spending time with them and staying involved.

743 these are great words.

Sports music drama its all the same if involved its all good.

As ex high school player dad I can add that if your child will play high school sports it will be because he is good enough not for any politics or dad ball that will be way out the window.

High school coaches dont care about last names reputations or prior team affiliations. The ones that do dont last very long.

This is to say your child should play only if THEY want to be involved not for the parents desires or image.

They are now teens at that age and need the independence to succeed or not succeed on their own. High school is a lot about preparing for life.
