If a team release a player can he play for another team this year? Or is there a cut off date to join someone else.

If he is released, he can play with another team. He would probably be used as a pick up player, but he could join a team as well if they wanted him as a full time player.

It's been a long time for me, but from what I remember, the only organization that being released and getting on another team matters for is USSSA. None of the other organizations have any roster limitations. For USSSA, I believe that once a team qualifies for a national event, their roster is frozen and players cannot play on another team.

So, as long as you're not playing USSSA, it really shouldn't matter at all.

Directly from USSSA rules-
3.06 Qualified Team Roster Releases:
3.06.A There shall be no limit to the number of players team managers may release from their frozen Official Online
Roster.
3.06.B A player released from a team’s frozen Official Online Roster shall be bound to the releasing team’s classification or higher for the remainder of the current season.
3.06.C A player released from a team’s frozen Official Online Roster shall be prohibited from returning to the releasing team for the remainder of the current season.

From Triple Crown -

7. Rosters: May never exceed 20 players during the tournament season (unless 16/18u and then 25 players are allowed) which is January 1-August 31. If you have players quit or transfer to a different team, they remain frozen spots on your roster. Example: If your roster has 13 players at your first tournament, you then have 7 spots left to fill throughout the remainder of the season. A player may appear on two Triple Crown rosters during the tournament season, regardless of age division. A Player may not play on two rosters on the same event dates.

NEW DIGITAL ROSTER! Immediately after signing up, click on “Login/Join” and login with your existing account or create a new account. After you’ve updated/created your team age group please add all of your players to your account by clicking “Edit Roster.” After filling out the requested information (Player Name, Birth + Parent Name, Cell, Email) click “Send Parent Authorization Request.” All parents will receive an email from support@triplecrownsports.com requesting them to approve the roster placement. To participate in the event, each parent must sign the digital roster online by following instructions in the email. Any player without an authorized signature on the roster has no Triple Crown rights and assumes full personal liability for any action at a Triple Crown sponsored event.

TRANSFERS: Player transfers are allowed if the original manager completes the ""Player Release Form"" and the form is submitted to a Triple Crown Representative at the time of the transfer. Call 970-223-6644 to request a copy of the Player Release Form.

Also USSSA has max rosters of 25 players and can have 3 additions to qualified teams before World Series play, but if additions are released they still count toward that max of 3.
