Anything new this year at ECB tryouts? Will be there next week but was wondering if we should expect more of the same or if Guerry decided to provide that 8 hours of instruction promised :-)

after watching yesterday, it looked like 3:40 of standing around and 20 minutes of tryout. Just my opinion...why not just donate 100 and not waste the gas to drive there.

At least Sunday is scrimmaging. Letting the boys play is at least better than standing around.

I mean why do we continue to go back....lets eee, field practice time 1- 1.5 hrs a week , tryout for the ASTROS odds are in our favor 1 in 30 , great price for 8hrs of instruction or was that a tryout , looks like Rain FIELD CLOSED , score boards work , MY guess its gotta be the food

upthemiddle,
It must be the food.

No, wait, if it was the food, we would all be playing over at Gresham Park. Man, I can just taste one of those catfish sandwiches now.

So when will the selection process be completed for the 13u since there seems to be a coaching quandry regarding the Astros?

BigG,
I know they have the best catfish sandwich I have ever eaten, and anyone that knows me knows that is saying something. I am starving just thinking about them.

Gosh! Now I'm going to have to visit Gresham Park just for a fish sandwich. Do they play fall baseball?

Sorry no fall league but we have some teams that play some fall games at the park, maybe I can get the cook to whip up some fish. What age is your team and do they play fall maybe I can put them with a team.

Back to the original comment about why ECB??!!......there are two primary reasons...As the players get older there are fewer options to play competitive baseball....ECB remains the best option for those players......At the younger ages, ECB is as much about the parents as the players. At the younger ages (13U and below) generally there are several other "very good options". At these younger ages, many/most of the ECB teams are really no different than other local teams.....they have dads coaching so their sons will have a place to play. The ECB Camp IS A TRYOUT.....this will be our 4th and all four have been the same. Lot of standing around and 90% of the focus on pitching.

yea , its about the parents as much as anything until 14s maybe 15s .

seeing this , the staff has raised their ceiling on number of players adn team$$

and its a very clean maintained complex that amounts for something.

but playing at E.C. does not guarantee success as a player or for the teams and it is with few exceptions ,with dad's coaching.

My son hits the 18's next year so won't be fielding a team for your park. That's ok though. I just want a good fish sandwich :-) Hard to find one of those.

centercut,
At least it was better than Saturday.

I did see a lot of players moving around and getting a chance to play different places. The problem is, it is easier to be seen as a catcher or pitcher than anywhere else. It is hard to showcase as a 2nd baseman or outfielder if no balls come to you.

Coach Dan
I agree that without dads, youth sports is a shadow of its current self.... but that is not the point here.....here, we are talking about why/if ECB is different. And the point remains that at ages 13U and under the answer is no.....It is a very nice park but it is the greatest myth that younger players get better coaching
