I read an interesting concept on training with weighted balls and arm injuries, the author I thought made in interesting point...Basically he said quarterbacks throw a 15oz football probably 70-80 times a day in practice for distances up to 65 yards with usually everything they got...Although the author agreed that the motion of throwing a baseball is different than a football..it is more similar than dissimilar....when was the last time you heard of a quarterback with an arm injury do to throwing the football...He was a big proponant of weighted ball training for pitchers to avoid arm injuries..He also had scienticfic studies relating to weight ball training vis-a-vis velocity and accuracy..and although the weren't satistically signifigant P value was .25 (basically that means that there was a 25% chance something other than the weighted ball training produce the increase in accuracy and velocity) he felt that the corralation was strong enough to endorse the idea of weighted ball training...He had no studies on arm injury prevention, but he felt there was a lot of anadotial evidence supporting weighted ball training with decreases in arm injuries..Personally I always thought that throwing weighted balls was a waste of time...there seems to be some evidence out there, that not only isn't it a waste of time, but maybe something all ball players should include into their training routines..FrozenRopes.com sells a 3 pound for 23 bucks and roughly 7 bucks in shipping..dealt with the people with their vision training products and found their service to be excellent... |
