NEW TOURNAMENT WILL CROWN
NATIONAL YOUTH BASEBALL CHAMPION
EIGHT ESTABLISHED YOUTH BASEBALL ORGANIZATIONS TO PARTICIPATE NEW YORK (June 4, 2008) - Eight top national youth baseball organizations—consisting of more than eight-million participants—have agreed to compete in an annual tournament to crown one "National Youth Baseball Champion." The four-day “National Youth Baseball Championships” tournament—scheduled to be played in Memphis, Tennessee from August 21-24—will be the initial effort of the “Major Youth Baseball Alliance, LLC.” The MYBA is a newly formed company comprised of eight major youth organizations, including AABC (American Amateur Baseball Congress), AAU (Amateur Athletic Union of the United States), Babe Ruth Baseball, Dixie Youth Baseball, NABF (National Amateur Baseball Federation), Pony Baseball, Super Series Baseball of America and USSA (United States Specialty Sports Association). The Board of Directors of the Major Youth Baseball Alliance, LLC, will be made up of the highest-ranking officials of the eight participating organizations. They include Richard Neely, President, AABC; Chet Lemon, National Chair for Baseball, AAU; Steve Tellefson, President and CEO, Babe Ruth Baseball; Wes Skelton, Commissioner, Dixie Youth Baseball; Charles Blackburn, Executive Director and CEO, NABF; Abe Key, President and CEO, PONY Baseball; Mark Mathew, President and CEO, Super Series Baseball of America; Don DeDonatis, Chairman and CEO, USSSA; and Eddie Einhorn, Vice Chairman of the Chicago White Sox, who will serve on the Board as Interim Executive Director. An MYBA Advisory Board will include Jerry Reinsdorf, Chairman, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls; Cal Ripken Jr., Member, National Baseball Hall of Fame; Dr. Harvey Schiller, President, International Baseball Federation; and Dennis Gilbert, Chairman, Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation. Additional Advisory-Board members will be announced at a later date. Through the Major Youth Baseball Alliance, every young athlete who participates in youth baseball will have the opportunity to win a U. S. National Championship in his or her age group. Until now, these established youth baseball organizations have had their individual champions, but there has never been a Championship Tournament—involving teams from all major organizations—to determine a true National Youth Champion. "It’s all about the kids," said Eddie Einhorn, Interim Executive Director of the MYBA. “We are about inclusion, participation and competition. Organizations with different philosophies have agreed to participate because it's about kids playing baseball. This tournament gives each organization's champion a chance to compete and test its team's skills at the very highest level." This year's inaugural tournament will feature 10-under and 12-under divisions—which includes more than 100,000 teams—with plans to grow the tournament to include as many as eight different age groups in the future. Nearly 80 percent of all participants in youth baseball in the United States—more than eight million young players—play in the well-established leagues that make up the Major Youth Baseball Alliance, LLC. In addition, more than 80 per cent of players on the current 40-man rosters of Major-League clubs have played in at least one of the eight organizations in the MYBA.
The city of Memphis, Tennessee, has been selected to host the “National Youth Baseball Championships” through 2010. Games will be played at the 10-diamond Gameday youth baseball complex.

| Most of the associations mentioned have the press release on their web site. A link to AAU's can be found at www.aaubaseball.org or here is a direct link http://aaunews.org/news/?p=569. Their plans are to get this televised and compete with the Little League World Series as far as media exposure. This has a lot of clout behind it and has a good chance of succeeding. The only problem for Georgia teams is the late summer dates because of school and football. |

| This sounds very interesting. Unfortunately unless/until USSSA and the other youth athletic organizations get some handle on team rosters and allowing teams to stack themselves for events like this it will become nothing more than Cooperstown on steroids. |

CHICAGO (July 1, 2008) – Chicago White Sox stars Jim Thome and Joe Crede joined representatives of eight youth baseball organizations—as well as a contingent from host city Memphis, Tennessee—at U.S. Cellular Field Tuesday to conduct the seeding draw for the inaugural “National Youth Baseball Championships” tournament.
The four-day tournament will be played at Gameday Baseball’s First Tennessee Fields in Memphis from August 21-24 and will crown national champions in the 10-under and 12-under divisions, which include more than 100,000 teams. Future plans call for the tournament to include as many as eight different age groups.
The “National Youth Baseball Championships” will be the initial effort of the “Major Youth Baseball Alliance, LLC.” The MYBA is a newly formed company comprised of eight major youth organizations, including AABC (American Amateur Baseball Congress), AAU (Amateur Athletic Union of the United States), Babe Ruth Baseball, Dixie Youth Baseball, NABF (National Amateur Baseball Federation), Pony Baseball, Super Series Baseball of America and USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association).
In a home-plate ceremony, Sox third baseman Joe Crede pitched in to draw the names of the participating organizations for placement in the 10-under division’s two pools while first baseman/DH Jim Thome did the honors for the 12-under division. Young players from those organizations assisted the players by randomly selecting each organization’s position in the tournament’s two pools.
“This is really a great day for youth baseball,” said Eddie Einhorn, Interim Executive Director of the Major Youth Baseball Alliance and Vice Chairman of the White Sox. “To have these two great players, both alumni of long-established youth baseball organizations, participate in our first-ever tournament draw is truly an honor.”

| USSSA website states that it will only send the winner of the ELITE 24 World Series, so where are the other 49,999 12 yr old teams going to come from, assuming that at least half of the 100K stated will attend will be 12 yr olds? How does one qualify? |

Actualy sandlot there are plenty of missing Organizations: Triple Crown, Little League, Dizzy Dean, Fletcher, Ripken, BPA and USTBA all crown 12U Champions, but are not participating this year. The 8 leagues that are there represent many, many teams, but I can't believe that there are 50,000 - 100,000 of them.
And you get there by winning the Championship for one of the 8 organizations.... |

| If I am understanding this correctly, this will only be an 8 team tournament with 4 being basic allstar winners from the league their organization plays in. If this is so, the elite 24 champion, super champion should walk away with this. If I am wrong please explain. |

| The way I see it, you are absolutely correct Pats0809! It would be like a 12U Major team entering an open tournament! But I am sure that the rules will allow rosters to be changed to give everybody a chance to see what it is like to be a New York Yankee! I am sure that it will be a frenzy trying to get all the best possible players to go with the teams that qualify, just like Cooperstown, Elite 24, Super Series, etc. No one actually brings what got them there, you have to better yourself because everybody else is! |

Talk about being in a different league. Having the winner of Dixie Youth and the winner of the elite 24 being in the same tournament seems almost unfair. I am not sure these league organizations realize what they have signed up for. I understand they want to say "Our champion will have the opportunity to go up against the best in the country" when in reality it may end up being "Our champion got pummeled by the best in the country".
It will be interesting to see how this comes out. I can see having AAU, USSSA, Triple Crown, and other travel organizations partner up to crown a champion, but bringing in league organizations is not fair to the kids in that organization. |

given that there are only two georgia teams currently involved in this, how many of you really know what's what and who's who in this tournament?
do you know anything about the other teams? unless you've read the info provided by the hosts, its nothing more than speculation. and declaring the elite 24 team champion prior to playing game 1 is nothing more than presumptuous, particularly when you probably have neither seen nor played any of the other org champions.

| Congratulations to the East Cobb Astro's for qualifying for this event. This event could eventually replace the Little League World Series as the Priemer Event of Youth Baseball. Hopefully some other Georgia teams will qualify as well. |

Qui,
you really think we only pay attention to teams in GA? You think that there are not 100 people on this board that don't spend as much time looking at teams from other states as they do GA teams?
I agree that we can't possibly know the outcome of the tournament, but the winner of the elite 24 will have proven themselves many, many more times over throughout the season than ANYTHING coming out of league play. Does that mean that they should automatically give the elite 24 winner the crown to this tournament? NO!! It has to be played on the field. |

| Pony, Babe Ruth,Dixie....these are Rec league allstar teams, the others will be at AA or AAA level and will offer a little better competition! The USSSA, AAU, and the East Cobb Astros (NABF), and the Germantown Giants (Super Series) will probably be the only Major teams in it! But then again it is 12u baseball and when the dust settles and the hands are shook, we will know! But as the years go on, it might become a premier tourney, I hope so! |

Aren't the L.L. rec based also. Msot folks these days take their Allstar teams and play on the weekends...If they do not then they will next year |

| For what it's worth, last year's PONY league 12U Champion (BRONCO) was the team from Tamiami. The same team that won Cooperstown Week 1 in 2007... |

Pony League, in Miami at least, is run more like a travel league. I was involved w/Tamiami three yrs ago as a 10u. There were 30 travel teams in the mustang division at that time. About 10 of those teams would show up in Triple Crown and USSSA tournaments.
My point is nobody really knows what organization is being run in what part of the country and how competitive they are. Atlanta is competitive, but so is Miami, Dallas, San Jose, Tampa, LA, and etc.
There is literally no possible way to ever really find out who the best 12u team in the country is.
