Over the weekend at the Triple Crown Slugfest in Cumming, my son's team played in the 10U division and during one of the games, a parent on the opposing team didn't agree with the calls the umpires were making and proceeded to flip them off numerous times and yell out that they were making "BS calls". The parent was immediately ejected from the park, which was obviously the right thing to do and I commend the umpires for not putting up with it. Triple Crown did a great job administering the tournament and I thank them for that. The point of this post is for all of us to remember why we do this and to take a moment and realign our priorities. I know the vast majority of those on this message board, the coaches and parents involved in our children's sports are doing the right things, but it only takes a few, or in this case, one person, to ruin that day's experience but also ruin the innocence of our children. These kids are out there to compete, play and have fun. Our job as parents, coaches, bystanders, etc. is to do everything in our power to ensure the kids come first and our egos are inconsequential. Let's all be mature adults and show the impressionable children how to act because it is a fact that they will mimic the actions they see.
Have a great season! |
