The barrage of televised Little League games on ESPN starts tonight at 8:00. I know this is 46'/60' with no leading off, but the reality is, most of these kids play travel ball in conjunction with their local leagues, convene at the end of the season with their league all-star teams and make a run at Williamsport. There is nothing more pure and fun to watch in my humble opinion. Just a heads up for all of you baseball junkies out there. |

I love watching these games, but the field is just too small for that age group. No lead-offs is takes away from it as well, but I do enjoy watching. |

I completely agree ChinMusic. We went to Williamsport last year and the kids are getting entirely too big for the 46/60 dimensions. Little League implemented an Intermediate League for 11-13 year-olds with 50/70 dimensions (regular baseball) and my thought is that we will eventually see this at the local level (some leagues already do this for a portion of their season) as well as the World Series. I will have to pay my respects anyway to the kids that hit those 300' bombs with a 2 1/4" bat against a kid throwing low-to-mid 70's from 46 feet away. Last year, Japan had a kid that threw 80. |

Its crazy that they still have the no leadoffs and play on the baby field... Its kind of hard to watch after watching a season of travel ball... 4bag, im thinking that Tbs national champion could beat an all star team of the little league conglomerate. |

Not a fair comparison due to the roster restrictions of Little League.

I agree that here in our good old state of Ga We could very well put an 11 or 12 yr old team together and clean house against most of The teams in The world series, I also agree that the fields are to small and it is good for The PLayers and Coaches. But at what point does it become an unfair advantage. If you move these kid back to the big fields The outcome would definitely be better Baseball. Just my two cents worth. |

Why would you like to see a team of 12 year-olds "humiliated"? |

Don't get your panties in a twist AllStar, just a figure of speech. No one "would like" to see 12 year olds humiliated and you know it. |

I always enjoy the annual Little League bashing. My son and I were watching the LLWS about a month after we had been to Cooperstown. He said, "I like what we did a lot better." I couldn't have agreed more.
That said, why does anyone that doesn't like it feel the need to denigrate it? Don't think it's for your son? Don't put him in it. Don't like the baseball they play? Don't watch it.
Kids and families making the memories of a lifetime? Good for them. |

That's Easton's newest line in their power brigade series, the "Mako". I'm sure you'll be seeing it a lot, although at quite a steep price. BBCOR version is $449.95 |

The LLWS is fun to watch. I agree on the dimensions and rules being a bit "rec-ballish" but it is what it is. Travel ball is completely different and the athletes are closer to playing the acutal game of baseball. I will say the kid with the long hair needs a haircut, that is ridiculous. |

Actually, the side story on the hair is that they pledged to cut if off if they made it to Williamsport. Their plan is to have the haircuts after the WS is over. They didn't want to jinx any mojo/good luck charms their hair might have.
I'm sure ESPN/ABC/Disney will find a way to have that highlighted.
Also, to the "rec-ballish" comment, remember, Little League is "rec ball" at it's core. We all know that many of the teams that make it to PA have players who have been playing on multiple travel teams, etc., but the leagues these kids play at during their seasons, the all-star teams and their qualifying games are, in fact, rec leagues.

I hear that about hair and debate it every year, because my grandson too wears long hair, but not that long. Each team we play throughout the year identifies him by the hair. Funny thing is, he only does this during ball season and cuts it off in the winter each year, usually before final tourney of the summer or world series. During world series first thing I heard was where is the long haired kid that usually bats third. Its just one of his quirks. Dont see a problem with it, but just my opinion. |

The umpiring is horrendous. If the catcher can catch the ball...strike!
