If you could choose any HS program/coach for your son to attend (academics and baseball) in Cobb/Paulding/Bartow/Private. Where would it be? Help please! |

For Bartow it would have to be Cartersville HS. This past Sat they won the AAA state championship. Just look at their record for the past 10 or so years. Coach Chester does a great job there and cares just as much about academics. |

Hard not to include Walton, Lassiter and Pope on this list. Top academics in the state (Walton is nationally recognized) and very strong baseball programs that send lots of kids to play in college.

Yes, they are always a contender. Gwinnett County is the other side of the planet from what he asked about, though. But as long as we're expanding the scope, Milton and Roswell both have good academics and baseball traditions. They just played for state.
Also in Gwinnett, Brookwood and Mill Creek.
I don't know much about local private schools, but Blessed Trinity has had pretty good teams the last several years. |

Perfect Game ranked the top 50 HS teams in the nation for 2013....
Milton #12 Pope #35
No other GA school listed.
You can see the list on PG website. |

Milton is the real deal, but not located in the OP's geographic range. PG is a reputable organization, but Pope should have an asterisk next to the #35. They only played one 6A team all year, losing that game via run rule (to Walton) 15-4. Don't get me wrong, Pope has a great program, but there are many, many 6A teams in Georgia that would have their way with Pope. |

That is for this year. Year in/Year out I think all of the choices listed will work. The trio Tribe mentioned probably have the best Academic/Baseball blend historically, although in any given year the baseball can be down.
Etowah's not a bad option either. |

Tribe To say there are MANY 6A teams that would have their way with POPE is laughable. POPE would never back down to anyone.
You do realize that POPE is 5-2 against Walton in their last seven meetings dont you?

Goin Deep:
1) Stop being such a homer. 2) Enjoy the great season you had. 3) Encourage your AD to schedule real non-region competition, then come back here and boast all you want. 4) I stand by my original statement. |

I don't have a dog in this fight, although I know a bunch of the Pope kids. I'm not sure why anyone feels the need to minimize what was a special season for that team/school/community.
Non-region play doesn't really mean anything anyway. Hopefully teams are tuning up for region and post-season play.
No asterisk required. |

You're right, of course. Pope had a great team and a great season. Nobody is minimizing that accomplishment. The beef is with the mention of a silly national ranking...and a snide remark of it excluding other top Georgia teams... If you're going to beat your chest about such a ranking, you should be willing to defend its accuracy. Non-region, out-of-class play would be a crucial component to compiling comprehensive ranking information which spans different regions, classes and states.

Totally 1000% agree with all of the above, especially the first point. I thought you had a gripe w/Pope in particular. |
