Maybe we should have a new forum for this topic or CDP in general?
I am looking for a certificate as well. Any help for 2013 CDP trip is appreciated.

Someone please educate me on the certificates. Do they just ensure you get the week you want? I was under the impression that as long as you plan well in advance and get your depost in any team could go. |

A certificate guarantees that you'll get A week the following year. Not the specific week that you want. Every year, they sell out every week, so there's no guarantee that you'll get in UNLESS you have a grandfather certificate.
Every year, they honor the certificate entries first (submitted before the deadline). Then the remaining slots go to the other entries without a grandfather certificate until all slots are filled. |

Thanks! So if there's a bunch of certificates floating around it could be difficult to get in. I guess my son's team may need to be looking for one.

The year we went everybody that had a grandfather cert got the week they requested. Most of the teams that didn't have a cert, but did everything on deadline, got the week they wanted. I am not aware of any teams that didn't get in at all.
The park I was at had two certs, but only one team going that year. I loaned one to another team. For no charge. The only condition was that they give the following year's cert back so that if our park had two teams wanting to go, we'd have the cert. If a cert doesn't get used in a given year it expires.
The people who would charge a team to use a certificate are probably the same people complaining about gate fees.

Allstar, that is an absurd comment on so many levels. Our team paid over $11k this season for Cooperstown, so collecting a few hundred bucks so some other team does not have to cut a big check right now is a reasonable proposition for both parties, particularly when the purchasing team can re-sell the one they get next season.
Our certificate has been taken, for those who have reached out to me.

I'm a free-market guy, so if you've got a willing seller and a willing buyer and a price they are both comfortable with, have at it.
I just didn't regard it as a commodity to be bought and sold. ymmv

When I was in line on the first day at Cooperstown to pick up all the paperwork and uniforms, I originally skipped the grandfathered certificate line. When the guy asked why, I said I'm not coming back next year. That's when he proceeded to tell me that most teams in our situation sell the certificates and that there's a market for them. He was right. I've had six people ask to buy it. Not getting rich off of it, but for teams who don't have the money in hand today, it beats someone fronting that big check now. I would have bought one last year, but didn't find one so I fronted my own cash in early June to ensure our spot. |

I have one, I will entertain offers over the next week or two. Not looking necessarily for $$ - goods, services, baseballs, field dry, infield tarp, etc. :-)
