We are playing in a 14u tournament this weekend for the 2nd time this year for an independent tournament organization. I have recently found out that there is a team that we have played a couple of times in this same organizations tournaments and coached by one of the TD's that has a young man that is to old by 1 day to be playing for this team.
My question is what would you do? Is it right for the TD to be doing this? Is this something that should be overlooked? Should we protest knowing full well that the TD is going to say it is just one day, just let it go? To me this opens the door for other rule infractions to be bypassed. What happens when a team brings in a player that is 6 months or even a year to old, is that ok?
We love playing in this area, it is close to our teams home here in Alpharetta, and the tournament usually draws some competative AAA and AA teams.
Please give me your thoughts. |

No it is not right and regardless if it's 1 day or 100 days over it's still over the deadline. |

Rules are rules...point it out...What if he was 2 days old, 3? Sucks he was born 1 day late, but my son has an april B-day which isn't that great for baseball. Thems's the apples. I have a June b-day and was always one of the youngest on my teams, it makes you better in the long run. Cutoff dates were different in the stone age. |

Rules are rules!
Just curious, is the kid not good enough to play up with his age, or is he just playing for convenience(local), or is he being used to try to win?

Not right....just like the teams that try to use a player in U-trip that is frozen on another team's roster. When they get caught they complain that the protestor is whiner. Rules are rules....some teams follow them and some do not. |

Rules are rules. The cutoff date is a hard date.........no wiggle room.
You mean the Tournament Director is the one breaking the rules? I would think they would know better. In fact, you better make sure that this kid is indeed too old before you protest, etc..... If the fact is that he is too old, then report it to a higher power and nip it in the bud before you play. |

Please, do it before the game. The kid doesn't know the rules.....more than likely...........don't ruin the game, weekend, or baseball for him or his team b/c of an adult rule, an arbitrary date. if you "know' it to be true then at least you can do the honorable thing. |

OK - Yall are talking about "rules" how bout this one I looked at the ajc this weekend it showed some article about a high school in northern fulton that just forfieted 6 games since the coach was playing kids illegally
it said too the team was removed from post season playoffs - that had to be a total bummmer for the legal playing kids !
rules are rules for a reason and if a coach cannot follow it then it must be dealt with - how else do we teach our young'uns to be honest Men ?
so now - how should we deal with these coaches breaking the rules ??

Super Series Has a section on their National Website called "Hall of Shame" for coaches and teams that have broken the rules. That way everybody knows..Public Humiliation is the best way. It might make you think twice about breaking the rules or you and your team get a reputation for doing it.

There are already rules in place. USSSA clearly states that managers intentionally or unintentionally adding ineligible players is grounds for suspension.
The problem here is that the leadership of these organizing bodies don't enforce the rules that already exist. We don't need new rules, just enforce the existing rules!!! |

there's a difference between intentionally trying to subvert the rules and inadvertent or neglectful violation. no intent whatsover by high school coach just a tragic and heart-breaking mistake. |

You're right Rob ; this one is not avoidable with excuses .Or apologies .
Rules must be learned and followed . If you make an honest error trying to follow rules then it should be forgiven
I wonder about their parents who volunteer time how they have suffered this , our school has everyone in on the game duties and we have become part of the team too !
Very unfortunate. |

That situation at Centennial is unfortunate. However, it was very well explained in the preseason umpires and coaches online clinic/video we are required to watch. |
