How about a little insight into the different sanctioning bodies? What's their focus and typical draw (classed or open)? How well are their tournaments run? Costs? Locations? Post season? Etc?
Example: USSSA seems to have the broadest selection of tournaments to choose from, but with so many TD's listing competing tournaments on the same dates they don't always make and the cost & quality of each tourney is primarily dependent on the individual TD. However, their classification system makes them very appealing for teams wishing to play on-level and their points system often allows favorable pool seeding to teams that play a lot of their tournaments.
How about others? Triple Crown, Grand Slam, Nations, Open Baseball, Diamond Sports Nation, GSA, BPA... ??? Also, any comments on independent non-sanctioned tournaments?

Thanks. It's not that I'm unfamiliar with most of them, but thought this might open things up for some chatter and some different perspectives. Majors teams are going to see some organizations as more likely to host better competition, while a AA team might tend to avoid ones that cater mostly to majors. Some may do a better job of drawing teams in the upper age brackets... and so on.
Love to have some TD's chime in too. |

We are looking to play a variety of different sanctions just for this reason. We will play USSSA tournaments in order to play teams of our own ranking and to qualify for the Global World Series in Gulf Shoes at the end of the year. We are also going to play a Triple Crown schedule because they seem to draw more teams to their tournaments and also a higher quality of teams. We will then also play some unsanctioned tournaments against teams that we just enjoy playing against.
When I look at our tournament schedule I have a philosophy; we try to play 25% of our games against teams that will beat us most of the time, 50% of our games against teams that you could flip a coin to determine the outcome and lastly 25% of our games against teams we should usually beat.
Thankfully the area we live in allows us the opportunity to chose where we wish to play. |
