I mean, I know, but don't really think it's the best thing. Many people on here have come to this board and complained about kids jumping teams and going off and playing on more than one team. Now, there is a situation where it's not easy to do that and everyone is up in arms about it.
I say, stick with your team, play with your team. If your team is taking a week off, the coach has a reason for it. He feels the team needs a break. Let your kid take that break as well.
I hear you and agree, however, in the past we've encountered not being able to field enough kids due to MIDDLE SCHOOL BALL (there's another thread developing on this topic) that caused us to have to take a weekend off and withdraw from a tournament. So there isn't one complete right or wrong answer. It depends. We've filled in with other teams early when our team didn't get to play because of this reason. Same age group though.
Also, we know kids in the extreme north part of GA that just don't have much to choose from in the way of competitive teams and have to play up in order to get enough games. It's those kids that a rule like this is going to hurt, not those with crazy parents pimping them out to 3 different teams every weekend int he hopes of landing a major league contract at the age of 17.
Jumping down from my soapbox now. |

Well what about if its for a different reason. Ive got a kid on my squad who plays for the 13u titans. He comes up to us if his team is off to get more work against stronger competition. When they are playing, I dont mind him being down there, when they are not and hes with us I love having him up.
The other crazy thing about us is I allow my 10yo to play with us because when his 10u team isnt practicing he works out with us in the cage and on the field. He tracks balls great, his hitting is average as they are throwing 70mph at him and his base running is good as he's got wheels. The big thing he brings to the team is his toughness and willingness to go out there and play against guys 4 years older than him, very inspiring to the rest of the team and makes him a beast on the 10u level. |

Went to the USSSA coaches meeting yesterday and this topic was discussed in detail. Bubba answered the queston on here very well. Yes a team can play up one age and down one class as a team. He did warn about playing on multiple teams. Players can play on multiple teams that are not frozen, but if after april 1 you have a player that plays for a older age higher class team and that team becomes froze while your player is with them, then that player can only play in the class he ws frozen in the rest of the season. They stated your only option to retain that player is to move up your team to that class. |
