| I have a Cannon Rebel with the standard 18 - 55 mm lens. I've had it for three years, with no real success, i.e., I don't know what I am doing. I would like to purchase a new lens so that I get some better shots at a greater distance. Also, I really want something that will capture fast-paced action plays. Any suggestions? |

| Keep this in mind. FOr those lenses that show "f/4-5.6", the more you zoom, the slower the f-stop on the shutter. This will especially effect you at night. Those lenses that show "f/2.8" will be the clearest, fastest lenses. They are more expensive, but may be worth the money to you. I am by no means an expert, but my understanding is the "f" measurement has to do with either how wide the shutter opens or how fast it opens and closes. Maybe one is a function of the other or one affects the other. Whatever the case, the 2.8 lenses are going to be the best especially in low light settings. |

| bballman is correct. If you plan on pictures at night the lenses has a big effect. You need the lower f-stop. This will make the price of the lenses go up quite a bit, but well worth it for nighttime shots under the lights. |
