Is it true that ECB is making all of their teams take a minimum of 13 players this year at the younger ages? I heard the older ages are required to have a minimum of 18 players? I hope this is not the case.

As far as I know there is no minimum.....However I can't say I understand why people wouldn't want to have a larger roster as it is truly the ONLY way to protect young arms aside from making 9-10-11 year old boys pitcher only type players. We will be 12U this year and while I understand the boys will have to play a position before and after pitching at least we will be able to limit the throws a little(unlike a couple teams this year where we saw a catcher catch 10 innings then pitch the championship game!!)...

Each team has is required to purchase 13 uniforms. That's probably where the number/rumor came from.

I think there are +s and -s on the large rosters.

Large rosters mean multiple players sitting at once, this reduces the feeling of isolation for the players sitting.

Large rosters can fuel the parent debate and create distractions for the team hurting all players.

Depending upon the coaching staff, this can work. However, if the coaches can not control the parents the players can become pawns in which the parents that gripe the least end up with thier players sitting the most. It's just an easy out for a weak coach.

In the long run a larger roster is better for these young players as they get a chance to rest during the 70-100+ game season.

Some will argue that they sit becasue you put the best 9 on the field, problem is that is not always the case becasue can easliy have multiple players at the same level and the fall off is created by lack of reps, not skill, effort or determination. Ending inthe same players sitting all the time.

Overall I still beleive the larger roster is better for ther players health, not sure its a great enviornment for the mental health of many parents. Some just don't get it and insist thier player play every pitch.

12uCoach,
I saw you back around the park pulling the red wagon. Which age group/team are you coaching this year? Glad to see you back around.

Thanks, it was time to get of the couch and come back. Bought that wagon in Jupiter, FL in 2004; time for a new coat of paint. I am moving up from 10U to the 11U Mudcats in 2012.

12uCoach keep your players close. Just saying. There are coaches that are better at taking talent than developing talent. How fitting for Shark Week! LoL. Wed meeting wont be dull. Wish y'all the best for the season.
