Tryouts for the 2011-2012 13u Sandy Springs Longhorns will be held at Morgan Falls Athletic Complex from 6 to 8pm on Wednesday July 27th and Thursday July 28th.
The Longhorns will be a AAA level team with a maximum of 13 players. We will be playing between 40 and 60 games in the spring. Most of the tournaments will be in the Atlanta area (as far as Kennesaw, Monroe, Peachtree City, and Villa Rica) with one or two out-of-town tournaments. We may return to the Cal Ripken tournament in Myrtle Beach.
The Longhorns will be coached by three non-dad coaches. The head coach, Matt Knight, is a former Division I baseball player, 5-time GA state champion, and long time travel baseball coach. Again, none of the three coaches will have any previous relationship with any of the players. NO DADS WILL BE COACHING.
The goal of this team is to prepare each and every player to excel at high school baseball. We will be protecting the boys arms and will never sacrifice the "arm-health" of a player to win a game.
Players are encouraged to play other sports and middle-school ball will be given priority in the Spring. We will practice one day per week from August through December and then kick into gear starting in January.

One important note:
No players on the 13U Longhorns will be allowed to throw curveballs. Some players and parents don't like this, so in the spirit of full disclosure I wanted to let you know up front that none of our pitchers will throw curveballs.
Also, no player will be allowed to practice with the team until he has turned in his personal goals for the Fall, Spring, and his long-term baseball career. We want to quantify and track each player's progress as the year continues and we can only do so if we are given goals before the season begins.

For anyone wanting more information on the program, expectations, fees, and philosophies for the 13u Sandy Springs Longhorns, there will be an informational meeting tonight at the pavilion by Field 3 at Morgan Falls Park.
Feel free to bring any and all questions and I will do my best to answer all of them.

Two Final Notes:
1. We will have a make-up tryout for anyone who cannot make this week's tryout on Friday August 5th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Morgan Falls. Please do everything you can to make one of these dates as Coach Matt will have very limited time to conduct private tryouts in the following weeks.
2. If you plan on attending tryouts, please be at field 5 at Morgan Falls by 5:30 pm to fill out a player information sheet.
We will need to know the following:
Player Name, Date of Birth, Home Address
Primary Positions (up to 3)
Parent's names and contact info
Last year's coach and contact info

Just a reminder that tryouts start tonight!
The weather looks good, so please be at the field at 5:30 to fill out a quick player registration/waiver form.
The schedule will be as follows:
5:30 pm - Player & Parent Arrival
5:30 – 6:00 - Player registration
5:45 – 6:15 – Player warm-up and throwing
6:15 – Quick Chat and Introduction
6:20 – 6:40 – Split into groups. Group 1 hitting in Cages. Group 2 fielding.
Group 1 = Outfielders
Group 2 = Infielders and Catchers
6:45 – 7:05 – Group 2 hitting. Group 1 fielding.
7:05 – 7:40 – 2 pitchers & catchers at a time throwing bullpens
7:10 – 7:40 – On field batting practice
7:40 – 8:00 pm - 60-yard-dash
8:00 – 8:30 - Questions

I wanted to say thank you to all of the young men who came to tryouts this past week at Sandy Springs.
We were overwhelmed with the amount of talent and enthusiasm for this year's team and we look forward to working with some of the brightest young players in the area.
Just a reminder:
If you could not make tryouts this past week, we will be holding a one-day makeup tryout this Friday night from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Morgan falls. Please be there 30 mins early to fill out the appropriate paperwork.
See you Friday and good luck to all the players trying out in the next few weeks around the city!
