Is it just me or are others annoyed at having to pay an entry fee at tournaments for my young child who has no choice but to come with us to these tournaments? Older kids can stay by themselves if they wish. A 9yr. old can not. I feel they are taking advantage by charging for these young kids! |

Lovit,
You are right on the money, it is a joke that we had to pay for two younger brothers to come and not watch their older brother play ball.
Our 5 & 7 yr old play 4 square and play their DS's and could care less about the game.
Money grab.

I hate gate fees! Yes, it is taking advantage, when charging for the siblings. I always feel like the nickel and diming starts right at the gate before you walk in. I wish they would just put the fee in the total tournament fee. |

Couldnt agree more.
Tournament Directors need to figure out how much they need to make in order to turn an acceptable profit and charge that much to the teams. Then add to that amount through t-shirt sales, vendors and concessions when possible(concessions are sometimes privatly run).

None of the venues my son played at last week were public parks. |

Or soccer field, basketball court, walking trail, picnic area, etc. Whole car is heading there. You're just dropping the baseball player off. |

This pretty much sums it up.

If you don't like it or don't feel it is fair....Then don't go and or participate. But when you freely participate and then moan and groan about it...Well I'll just say your probably not going to get a lot of understanding.
I'll add this; People who seek out something to be offended by usually find something to be offended by.
The most important thing to remember is your kids are watching you...they see how you react to situations outside of your control. If gate fees are due then set a good example for them to see and pay your dues like everyone else or stay home. It's still your choice either way...and no, I'm not a TD.
Just my .02 cents worth.

Siblings should be free. Recently went to a tournament and they charged one of our families when their child was in a chair for his disability. Remember the park is not charging the families it's the tournament organization. Pay to get in but don't patronize the facility. Bring your own goodies. Just a thought? No one ever said Travel ball was going to be FREE! |

I am a tournament director and we do not charge for 10 and Under kids. We charge reasonable team entry fees and reasonable gate fees. Give me your feed back.
Team Entry Fees for 8-Under = $50
Team Entry Fees for 9-12 = $200
Gate Prices: Weekend Pass = $10
Friday Pass = $3
Saturday Pass = $6
Sunday Pass = $6
Kids 11-17 and Seniors 60 + receive $1 discount.

Children who are too young (under 13) to leave at home alone should not be charged. These kids have to go where the parents go, they don't even watch the games. If anything these younger children line the pockets of the hosts by eating at the concessions.
In response to DoubleD, the thread is not about paying gate fees. It is about hosts parks charging siblings. It is a tax to those families that have multiple siblings that must accompany the parents to these games. Yes, my kids are watching me and my actions. If I believe something to be unjust I will speak up and I expect the same from them. I don't choose the tournaments our team enters, but if they start to nickle and dime us in the form of gate fees for siblings I will speak up in the hopes that these TDs will rethink the gates for siblings.

I vote for all TD's to have a team gate fee. All but 2 of our tournaments so far have been this way. They don't have to staff a gate and more relatives will come. Spending more on concessions.
$100 team gate= $10 per family and everyone is happy!!! |

Guess I stand corrected? Just assumed the thread was about Gate Fees for Younger Siblings as it was titled as such. Thanks for setting me straight! |
