Like bball said, most higher level EC teams are already picked before tryouts. At tryouts they are just looking for 1 or 2 to fill out the roster. Players heading to 643 know they have a better chance of making a 643 team then they do an EC team because they know EC has not come calling for them. As much as 643 supporters want to believe their program is better than ECs it just isn't. Not now at least. Go to the Perfect Game website and look up their national ranking of travel teams in all age groups. You will have a hard time arguing that PG does not have the best intel on travel ball teams. They rank the top 25 and then have a list of honorable mentions. Here's what you'll find: 14U- EC Astros #1, EC Titans #17, no 643 team 15U- EC Astros #2, EC Braves HM, EC Titans HM, 643 HM 16U- EC Titans #17, no 643 team 17U- EC Astros 16 year olds #4, EC Astros 17 year olds HM, 643 HM 18U- EC Braves 17 year olds #2, EC Yankees #8, 643 #25, EC Braves HM So across 5 age divisions EC has 7 top 25 teams, none above #17, with 5 in the top 10 plus 4 HMs. 643 has 1 team in the top 25 at #25 with 2 HMs. EC also has 2 teams ranked in the top 4 in the age group above them. Sorry. But as of now, there is just no comparison between the two programs. Lets look again in 5 years and see what 643 has done.
And to Shut Out- As much as we would all like to think DP and his program is above money and just doing this for the benefit of the kids you have to be realistic. 643 is his BUSINESS. Look at his prowess in getting the fields from the county. He will field as many teams as he possibly can and maximize his revenue. He is a BUSINESSMAN. |

excoach12, you are absolutely right about the rankings and notoriety surrounding the top EC teams. No question about it. However, right now, 643 is developing a true "program", at least from what I have observed. All coaches are hand picked, all coaches are on board with the 643 way of doing things and they are all about player development. I also agree that it is a business. It's not cheap and you wind up paying for that development. The advantage to ECB is the notoriety and attention you automatically get by being a top EC team. It's a given.
So, will 643 catch up to ECB by continuing to put out quality trams? Only time will tell. But, in my opinion, DP seems to be going about it in the right way. And that should bring that attention as they put out good teams. |

EC is a mature facility/program. 6-4-3 is in its early growth phase. At their current trajectory, I can easily see 6-4-3 catching up in # of fields and teams at some point. However, EC will still be able to boast of more Major League alumni, and College players developed, for many years to come due to their head start. It will be fun to watch, and the players will benefit greatly by the efforts of each. |

Thought this thread was worth resurrecting. It's been about 3 years since this first popped up. What are the opinions now? My son has been fortunate enough to have played some tournaments on these fields and the quality of the playing surface is as good as it gets anywhere. The tournament updates could stand some improvement but other than that, this has proven to be nothing but GREAT for the players in metro Atlanta in my humble opinion. |

I still think it was a sweet heart deal for 643. A deal most business and baseball people would have jumped at given the chance. Affordable for the average joe. Facility looks great, I still stand by my original thought that the park should have been paid for outright by 643 and upgrades and improvements as well, not by City Taxpayers. It is however good for baseball so that is good in itself, I am not sure how many teams they have over there now or the quality of each one, but I see the 643 logo as much as the ECB logo. |
