We have 3-4 tournaments in the books now. Anyone want To throw some thoughts out there? The blog has been dead lately maybe due to early season or age group - not sure which. Just trying to get some chatter going...

My best guess early season... Several teams not active yet but just guessing a little on those teams. I may be missing someone... ???

1. Kennesaw Generals ( big wins: 643 Cougars, SD Tribe Gold, Xtreme )
2. Smartense Angels ( 2nd in Super Regional AL, big wins: Ga Braves, 643 Cougars twice )
3. Cell Block - no activity that I know of but always stout
4. SD Tribe Gold ( big wins: Squeeze, GA Braves, SF Giants)
5. Squeeze ( big wins: Kennesaw in final of TC Spring Frost )
6. GA Power ( big wins: Squeeze, Titans Blue )
7. Team Elite Stealth ( big wins: SD Tribe Gold and SF Giants )
8. GA Braves ( old Gainesville Braves )
9. SF Giants ( big wins: Titans Blue, Oconee Elite )
10. Titans Blue ( big wins: Smartense Angels )
10. RBI Red Stitch 108 ( big wins: GA Braves )

Thoughts?

I put the most weight on this past weekend's SNIT over any other previous tourney, due to lack of depth. An 11-team (4-5 game to win it all tourney) or a 'mixed' tourney of AA/AAA/Major teams, where 2-3 bracket games are 'cake walks'. A 20+ all Major tourney didn't allow for 'cake walks'. Every game was a battle. A test. So, while 'marquee' wins are great, ESPECIALLY (or should I say, ONLY) in bracket-play, the big picture and when it was a win or go home, this is how they finished, so what's to argue?

1 (tie): Kennesaw
1 (tie): Team Elite
3 (tie): South Forsyth
3 (tie): Oconee Elite
5 (tie): Tribe (Gold)
5 (tie): GA Power
5 (tie): RBI
5 (tie): Game On
5 (tie): Gamers
5 (tie): Halo
11 (tie): West GA
11 (tie): Squeeze
11 (tie): Meridian
11 (tie): GA Braves
15 (tie): Cellblock
15 (tie): Titans Blue*

(*not sure AA/AAA event results should be considered.)

Takeaway from the NIT was that Kennesaw was legit. The cream of the crop. From there it is a question mark depending who is on the mound. Take away one or two flame throwers on most of the other teams and they are the same.

I agree, let's take away the SNIT and the last 3 tournaments. Hey, give me that girl that catches with her bare hand. And, I also need that kid that only hits with a USA stamped mop handle. My team would be legit too. I would be a model if I didn't resemble my parents.

What makes this forum interesting is: it’s an accepted form of communication to troll. “Well, I guess we know how the Top-15 looks.” No math is used. “Hard to argue, since it’s crystal clear in the aftermath of this stacked event.” My gosh, 2 (two) teams made top 15 and they were not in this tournament. Turntwo says 20+ I say 30+. I am amicable and I am okay with 15 or more Major teams (High-Middle-Low) to prove your worth. This is for all who reads this. Why is Kennesaw (a good team- a solid team) #1 in Georgia? Everybody on Game Changer saw Ga Squeeze go 6-0, head to head in the championship game with Kennesaw on fields where supposedly the "only" place a kid’s dream can come true - the fields of East Cobb.
Kennesaw is more than capable of winning a Major championship this year. Can we crown Kennesaw when it happens? I believe Kennesaw won 2? one-day tourneys. It was hard to find, but Squeeze won 1? one-day tourney. Even if you weight all the tourneys in binary format for the 2018 spring/summer season, that’s 2-2 and Squeeze broke the tie headed to head. 8-Team Tournament vs 32-Team Tournament sounds equal to me. (Can I say LOL in a blog or is that corny?)
So, let us bring this full circle. I say Garner Gamers are #1 and everyone is chasing the phantom team. (For those who needs reminding, they were not from Northside.)
I only ranked teams that look for competition. I have trouble ranking -the history of this form called them “trophy hunters” #talkguerrillawarfare, #ifIsayitenoughitwillbetrue
I am ranking GA teams based on wins, not almosts or teams that didn’t play for whatever reason (Wink-Wink)
1. Ga Squeeze
2. Kennesaw
3. Garner Gamers #Iwishtheywerestillhere (if you remember they stayed high even if they didn’t play) and I like them
4. SD Tribe

Very subjective but I watched the Squeeze play all their games this past weekend. Not sure what was up but they did not look great.

Tongue-in-cheek humor aside, it appears everyone agrees Kennesaw/Squeeze is where the bar is. There were surprises this weekend (early exits and advances). It's great to see this much good baseball in GA. This will be a fun spring all season!

The other thing I have noticed this year is that some of the mid tier major teams have a bunch of 6th and 7th graders that have gone thru growth spurts....size matters. There are a few of top tier scrappy major teams with smaller 6th graders that may struggle some this year.

Rankings are subjective as discussed. Every major team has a pitcher or two capable of beating most teams. When ranking you have to consider depth, doesn't mean a team will win every tournament just that they have the depth to possibly win the entire tournament. That is how I base my rankings atleast.

1. Kennesaw - I did not realize the talent they picked up until this past weekend. Much improved. Fundamental, well coached, lots of pitching.
2. SD Tribe - one rough weekend does not determine a team. They have been at the top for years and have an athletic, competitive group. They know how to win.
3. Gainesville - read above. will be there in the end.
4. CellBlock - based on previous years, this ranking is still a question - but don't bet against
5. Smartense - depth is a concern but having seen them play, they will win a good number of games. Top two pitchers can win them any game.
6. Team Elite - just going on finish this past weekend
7. CMSB Squeeze - past weekend was a head scratcher but they are clearly talented - consistency is key
8. GA Power - name is fitting

That would be my top 8 today. Fun to rank but any team can beat another team depending on who is on the mound and the fact that they are kids.

I agree, your ranking is subjective. Hey, someone else ranking could be subjective. Ranking shouldn’t be subjective. This is my opinion, Ranking should be objective. Let not choose a team based on your scouting report; they picked up x, y, z player or the coach studied at Cambridge in the Institute of Metabolic Sciences. (P.E.) If you win the tournament you are the champion. You win enough you become undisputed until someone takes the crown. You could use algorithms and formulas: we still have kids playing basketball, how many teams in the tourney, the temperature, scoreboard not working, bathrooms not clean, they have too many football players. Anything you can prove or disprove is how ranking should be determined. (objectively) Let’s make a new branch of Government “Subjective Branch”.
Let's just count wins and use head to head as a tiebreaker. Wait for it. Wait for it. That’s how we play to determine rankings for the bracket play now.
If your team can complete the mission/tournament (large or small) with a win, I would classify that as a SOLID team. Yeah, I finished two major tasks and have a good attitude but didn’t finish the job. Guess what? I didn’t finish the job.
All the teams are worthy of winning and if they play long enough stay determined and focused. It may come. There is no guarantee it will.
This is my rendition of what TeamFirst subconscious was saying
Um -Hum (Actor clears his throat)
1. Kennesaw- same talent as the beginning of the season. I wanted them to win this tournament since they came so close in the last one. Man, they have a good coach – I met him and they have lots of pitching.
2. SD Tribe- Since you jump Garner Gamers in last year World Series or State Tourney you are #1 in Georgia. Your last two tournaments don’t define you. You have been on top for 1 year and we all believe in your athletic ability and completive nature. You guys really know how to when.
3. Gainesville- I ranked you high and same as SD Tribe, but you didn’t jump the Gamers
4. Cellblock- I rank you high based on previous years, this ranking is in question because we don’t see much of you. I don’t want to bet against you but if I don’t see you play I will.
5. Smartense - I think you are better than you are playing right now. (I hope so anyway.) You will win a good number of games, if you match your pitchers right you can win more games. Is it true you have your own team plane?
6. Team Elite- I really thought you were going to finish. I was hoping to see you and Kennesaw in the finals. I had my fingers crossed.
7. CMSB Squeeze- This past weekend you lost 3 straight games. You clearly have talent; other things are in question. How did you really beat Kennesaw? Consistency is the key to success.
8. GA Power- I was surprised to see how well you fight. That name fits you.
I would think that more than TeamFirst fictitious subconscious believes that too. And that’s okay.
Who knows this week Tournament may change a #1 for all of us (That’s Georgia, for you outta towners)
I totally agree with TeamFirst, “Fun to rank but any team can beat another team depending on who is on the mound and the fact that they are kids.”
Sometimes it is not enough, for one’s self, to believe his son’s or grandson’s team is good we need everyone on the blog to believe it. Some of us read them to see if our team is mentioned. Our name will be on the list and I hope it subjective ranking otherwise we won’t make it.

ballerboy - I agree when I saw the Squeeze out of the bracket in game three with three straight L's. They didn't look like much, this weekend.
You have to crown them champions when they jab you and wear you down with combinations and knock you out in the championship round. Do you Agree? against the Champs.
If no Ga team wins give the crown to the team that came the closest. Come on, that sounds like horseshoes.

Listen saying it sounds like horseshoes is subjective. Saying they need to earn the crown with a completed body of work isn't subjective.

If Squeeze play this weekend and they walk away with an L. Someone may claim to be the new champs. Someone may give it back to Kennesaw as if they lost it. The crown then will be treated as if a team picked it up and returning a lost item. (Hey, excuse me I believe you drop this.) I would probably claim it too, just to be on top, if just for a little while. I would let Kennesaw and Squeeze fight over the chain of custody, all while booking with Good Morning America with Micheal Strahan.

One sure fire way to become the new or remain the champs is to beat everyone. Good luck with that one.

This is kind of fun to read. My own opinion after watching most of these teams play in the fall and the spring... I think most can agree on the top 2 it 3 teams. After that it is a wash. There are mid tier major teams that are not ranked here that handily beat teams like Ga Power in the fall. I also believe there were a few teams that used “pick up” players for the NIT that did better than one would expect. In the end it comes down to opinion but still fun to discuss.

Thoughts on who I see play:

Kennesaw- Good pitching depth. Finally hitting the ball. Coach does best job of scouting in age group. 42 good pickup. True leadoff hitter.
Squeeze- Which team is real squeeze? Triple Crown winner or 0-3 SuperNIT? Do they know?
SD Tribe- Great talent. Trouble with the curve. Will run on you all day if they get on base. Love their swag.
Gaineville- RUSTY. Should be there in the end. Pitching and defense not up to par at SuperNIT.
Elite- Name is fitting. Good fundamentals. Tough draw.
Ga Power- Inconsistent. Good one inning, no defense the next. Hitting-nothing for 3 innings, then score 8. Pitching depth and talent is there to be decent.
SF Giants- Added a pitcher for the one they lost. Solid. Very well coached. Question is pitching depth. Can they go 4 games on a Sunday?
Halo- Good talent. Tallest 12 year old I've ever seen. Top pitcher is really good. Drops off after that.
West GA- Scrappy. 2 good pitchers. They will struggle with winning if they play a true Major schedule.
Titans Blue- Not the Blue of 2 years ago. Still a good team. Can win any time out. But there are no teams at Titans like they had 2 years ago when Orange and Blue seemed to battle every weekend. Best players are at other places. See Kennesaw, SmartTense, etc.
643- Pick any of them and you'll agree they are all well coached, and usually overachieve based on fundamentals. You don't want to draw any 643 team in the first round of bracket, because they will not usually beat themselves, but you might.

Also interested to see how these "top" teams fare as the game changes with pitching and base distances, player growth (both physically and mentally) and development. Minion played their right fielder like short fielder this weekend with the wind blowing in and made several plays at first. That won't happen as much as the boys grow older. Also, the tendency is for a lot of kids to start choosing their "sport" after the Cooperstown year. It will be fun to watch which team have players that will stick with the sport and truly work to get better and go take their game to the next level. It may be the 13th batter out of 12 on a AA team this year that grows late and turns into the next big thing from our state. You never know. But man is it fun to watch them play.

1. Kennesaw
2 thru 10 is very subjective.
Smart Tense has a couple of big time pitchers.
Tribe has struggled
Squeeze and Gainsville 0-3 in SNIT
Team Elite had pick up players in SNIT and lost to BigStixs in TC.
S.Forsyth seems solid
Titans Blue is average
RBI Red stitch who have they beat, got drummed in Alabama.
Ga Power solid but same as the rest .
2 thru 10 can beat each other any given tournament.
