The forum on 12u has been quiet!! A lot of good ball going on around these parts! First big tournament looks like a doozy! Has all the big clubs Astros,Titans, Jackets, Cougars, .45's, and many more! I'm gonna predict:

Astros or Jackets-Gold

Pitching will be king. Kennesaw, CMSB, Titans, TE, Tribe and Stros have to be front runners... TE has a great pool draw to save their Sunday pitching. As does CMSB. Problem is Stros have their plate full in pool play...

Some will get easier 1st or even 2nd round bracket games due to pool play match-ups, which will benefit even more.

Tribe and Kennesaw have to be the front runners. Don't sleep on Smart Tense. Didn't TE get beat by BigStix last weekend?

That's SmartTense Red. If I'm not mistaken it's the Black team that is their good team. I also think with all this rain, hitting is gonna dominate defense this weekend.

Good to see baseball cranking back up! Glad to see Mach rolling in....
Smartense top team is in AL for the Super NIT along with Red Stitch too last I looked. Those two team surely will be a factor all year long in our local match ups. Maybe those boys are pushing for ORL this year or just taking a nice road trip to start the year.
The Astros ( both teams ) will always be solid but they are not near the leaders of the 12U class. They are mid level majors but have a few pitchers that could certainly flip the script on a real good team if they can hold those pitchers long enough for Sunday.
In this group until proven otherwise... Tribe Gold and Kennesaw will likely lead the charge. Potential challengers will be CMSB although no one has seen them play with additions and subtraction from last fall to spring so tough to know. Then you have Ga Power, Titans Blue and SF Giants Black.... A few sleeper teams could be Mizuno, Big Stix and 643 Cougars. All have good teams and several very capable pitchers. That is the difference this year. At 12U these kids ( some ) hit that growth spurt and go from throwing 55 to 65 literally over night. You don't know until you see them in the spring. I suspect a few of these teams will have some surprises for us. Should be a good one!

That isn't the Smartense team you are thinking about. They have 2 teams.

A number of teams but missing a few notables

High Major Gainesville sitting this one out as they are still recovering from basketball season

Mid-Majors Smartense Black, Redstich 108 and Tim Hudson are all in Alabama in a SNIT

Don’t see how South Dekalb or CMSB lose until they play each other

You'll be hearing plenty about them... They picked up the 2nd best free-agent catcher, that will really provide a boost for them, offensively and defensively. They got more athletic all the way around, while keeping their aces. Something, not all can say they did.

Good luck to all who are competing in Georgia this weekend. I think everyone knows deep down in their hearts that the most storied franchise in youth baseball history, the East Cobb Astros, will be bringing home the trophy this weekend. The Northside Narwhals are still in spring training in Scottsdale Arizona for another couple of weeks, but we look forward to returning to Georgia when the weather is a little warmer to showcase the most talented team of coaches’ kids in the western hemisphere. #NarwhalsNation

So, takeaways from the Weekend...

The High Majors are who we thought they were!

Life as a Mid-Major means that you are impacted by your pool play draw. Who you swim with in the pool basically decides whether you get an early exit in the Gold or an extended run in the Silver. But the High-Majors, CMSB, Kennesaw and South Dekalb, all did what they where supposed to do. Run through pool play and advance to the Gold semifinals.

I was particularly impressed with the weekend that Kennesaw had. They scored way more runs then I thought they were capable of. And after having to throw their ace in the semifinals to beat South Dekalb, they took on the top two pitchers of CMSB and played them to extra innings. Not saying that CMSB couldn't have also done that, but Kennesaw really showed me something this weekend.

And in Alabama, Smartense did what many thought that they would do; win at least two games on Sunday. While Tim Hudson and RBI Redstitch 108 lost play-in games, Smartense won two games to advance to the finals. Smartense is turning out to be a team that you don't want to face early on Sunday.

There is a LOT of truth in that statement. Don't draw either of the top 2 pitchers, and they are beatable. But if you have to face one of them, you'll have your hands full.

Man, what a weekend on baseball! Awesome weather Sunday for a first big tournament.
Congrats to "CMSB"!! They had to sure earn that on in that last game. Someone said above "the draw" is key and boy is it!! Kennesaw, Tribe, Ga Power and Titans Blue all on the same side!!! WOW!!! That other side was far far easier navigating but hey that is what it is. I saw several great games over the weekend. The 643 Jags deserve some props what a scrappy club they have. Certainly played some good baseball all weekend just used that pitching up some in pool play and didn't have quite enough to get past CMSB but nothing to be ashamed of there. That Kennesaw vs GA Power was a real good game until the last few mins. 7-5 going into the final inning with runners in scoring position. It was fun to watch... Coaches at Kennesaw have a lot of experience and their team is very confident as they should be. The Tribe can really hit no doubt about it but it will be interesting in the spring when they get to the finals which I am sure they will a lot...those final 4-8 teams are going to have pitchers that can reach 65-70 with off speed. It will be fun to see how they fare. They have always dominated offensively but I love watching them. Great crowd and fans too!
The Super NIT should be a blast other than having to play in so far south but it's there every year. Speaking of Super NIT, I saw where Smartense won and they are a solid team as we already know but did you guys see the number of pitches this early in the season on their studs arm looks like end of season numbers... Maybe it's me but that seems like a lot of pitches. I know this is a huge topic of opinion and not everyone agrees and I am not saying it's wrong or right it just surprised me a little this early. Tip of the cap to them for sure surviving any Super NOT is legit. The Alabama Sox team is ALWAYS stout.
