Congrats to the Midway Dirty Dawgs on the win at the Nations State Tournament. Congrats to the Georgia Select Red for winning 4 games Saturday against Sandy Plains, NYO Drillers, West Forsyth Diamond Dogs, and Mill Creek Hawks, before facing the Midway Dirty Dawgs and giving them a hard fought battle in the end for a second place finish. What a great weekend of baseball in the extremem heat. By the end of the day many of the boys had heat rash so bad they could barely walk.

Heres what I saw from the teams that compeated at this tournament:

Teir 1:
Midway Dirty Dawgs - very solid team with good defence and pitching. Strong AAA/low major team
GA Select Red - solid on defence, not very deep pitching though. Good fundimentals. Strong AAA/low major team
Drillers - solid on defence, good run differencial - Strong AAA/low major team

Teir 2:
WFDD - solid AAA team, needs a pitcher or 2 to get to the next level
MC Hawks - Dr Jeckle and Mr Hide on this one - look solid sometimes and look like a rec team sometimes - lost a couple good players during the year so maybe that is why - lots of potential but not delivering for some reason
SP Wildcats - solid AAA team with lots of potential - kind of up and down this year though - played better earlier this year than now - maybe some of them are looking forward to whatever is next

Teir 3:
The rest of the teams

Thank you so much for the compliments - we are very proud of our Ga Select Red Team! 9 games in two days....all of them back to back, 8 straight hours on Saturday and 10 straight hours on Sunday. All of the teams in this tournament were tough and ready to take it to the final out. While the heat was bad for everyone, the boys grew up alot on those two days to overcome being in the loser's bracket early and almost winning it all. Congratulations to the Dirty Dawgs...you are one tough team!

Gwinnett Dad, How can you say a team is not very deep in pitching when they played 9 games in two days?

You bring up a good point Skipper. That was a bunch of games and it was HOT too !! Didn't mean any offence I really think Select Red is one of the better teams out there.

Hello Gwinnettdad,

I agree with most of what you said. I will tell you the loss of those two players have no reason for the ups and downs we have had this season. I believe it was the best thing for all families involved for the two players to move on as I believe they will be much happier in their endeavors. We are in the process of adding players to the team that will make us much more linear and give us much more consistancy then we have had in the past. We have always been about having good chemistry with the players and parents and we will always make that more important then a win/loss record. Our families are enjoying being together and as long as we continue to provide that, we will let the boys be boys and have fun. When the chemistry is compromised, we prefer for the player and parent to move on to other things. These seasons are too short for all the drama some like to have. We have played a much more difficult schedule this season and with that there will be some growing pains.

Georgia Selct showed a lot of heart in the tournament. They continue to show a lot of class. Look forward to playing them again.

Hawks8, Im a simple man so will you tell me what "linear" means as far as your team goes?

Im with you on the chemistry thing. Got too keep that in check.

Just curious - what areas do you think you need to improve the most right now?

"Linear" means straight line, or in this reference it is also meant to mean steady or consistent as opposed to up and down like a roller coaster.

If you asked most travel Coaches what they need to improve most right now, I think the most common answer would be "need more pitching", 2nd most popular response need 1 or 2 big bats, 3rd catcher that can slow down their running game, 4th middle infielder. I'm not certain what Howks8 response would be though.
