What a weekend of baseball at the Wood Bat Classic in East Point. For those who have not played in a wood bat tournament it sure is fun. A premium is on pitching and fielding since the wood bats keeps the hitting down. The Alpharetta A's have advanced to the finals against the Ga. Yard Dogs(Black) with wins over Gresham Park Yankees,Oconee Tigers and Buckhead Braves. Amazingly enough the 2 teams that were supposed to play the Yard Dogs today decided to forfeit their games. While the A's realize they have a monumental task to try and compete with the Yard Dogs who are one of the best,if not the best in the state, tomorrow , they are going to show up and give it their best shot.
Interesting group of teams, you have one of the top teams in the State with a couple of 9 yr old teams, several AA teams a couple AAA teams. Tall task to take on the Yard Dogs, report back after the game.
We couldnt play in any of the USSSA tournaments because there was not a Major Division and all the ducking and dogging going on outside of the EC Braves and Stealth ...... we decided to take a weekend where our parents can drive around the corner to deal with the ducking and dodging instead of riding all the way to Sandy Plains to get the same treatment. We have been on the road all year and still have 4 tournaments outside the State on our schedule before August ....... Money doesnt grow on trees and our parents and coaches are getting a little tired.........
Also the Yard Dogs do respect the approach that the coaches and young men of the Alpharetta A's have taken towards the game today ...... Since the coaches meeting they have challenged themselves to make it to the championship to face us and have confidence that they can and will compete......Great lesson taught to your kids and parents......others should take a page out of you guys book ....... Good Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an amazing Championship game. Going into the 6th inning the Yard Dogs led 2-1. Both teams had great pitching and defense. The Yard Dogs opened it up in the 6th inning and won 7-1.No doubt they are a great team. The A's really enjoyed playing the Yard Dogs. They have a great group of kids, coaches and parents who treated us great. The Yard Dogs while extremely competitive were as polite and gracious as any team we have played. Thanks for a great game.
The A's who have a 32-3 record to date learned that they can compete with the bestof the best and look forward to playing the Yard Dogs again.
