Making excuses for a loss is not a good message to send to a team of 11 year old kids. We should always analyze why things went wrong and correct them on the practice field just like we would do if the kids did bad on a test in school and we corrected things in the classroom. We have been without our #1 pitcher since October, but we have never used it as an excuse and never will. Our kids know they just have to step it up until he gets back. |

Doc I know you still have this belief that MBA has beaten my sons team but they havent even played, my son plays SS for a 12u Major team. MBAs 11u Major team hasnt jumped in that pool yet and probably for good reason. Jump in the Florida Elite 12u Major tournament on 4/9. Come see how MBA holds up. Why do you seem to believe that you must have beaten someone just because they dont think MBA is the best team in Florida or the country? Why do you feel you need to offer excuses just because MBA was beat?
I have said it before on this forum. MBA is a good team. I am not taking that away from them but they have struggled when they have faced teams with good pitching and coaches that can pick apart hitters swings and take advantage of their weaknesses with their pitch selection. ( Thats what Real Baseball Is About ) I have coaching experience beyond the high school level. I only base my opinions on what I have observed when I have seen MBA 11u play and some of the players over the last 2 years. Just because I dont agree with you does that mean I must have an agenda against you...No it doesnt. My opinions are strictly unbiased.
As for never winning another tournament I dont believe thats what I said. I will say however that its not going to be easy now against top teams with good pitching that pitch your team just as the Longhorns did.

All I can say is that the season is just beginning. There is a lot more baseball to be played. Because any given team beats us does not mean that they are better or even equal. There were too many variables involved in that loss. I considered it an aberration. Only time will tell if this is true.
I would like to know the name of G-man's team. It sounds like MBA must have pounded them.

They didn't fair too well against MBA at the Disney Super NIT!

bmoser, this Lynn Haven team was very impressive. I got to watch them play the MBA team in the semifinals and the Bay Bombers in the championship. I'm guessing they threw their #1 against MBA and he pitched a great game. Lots of curve balls to keep the big MBA hitters off balance.
The curve ball always seems to be the equalizer when it comes to most teams that try to stack their lineup with nothing but big power hitters. I said it on this site more than once. You throw anyone who has a decent fastball but has a good curve ball MBA hitters will pound the ball in to the ground for Sunday hop outs.
As for their shut down pitcher I thought he was there. I am sure however that Doc has a different view than some of us he might share.
As for the Longhorns I told a friend of mine on Sunday when I saw what the bracket was that the Longhorns would beat MBA. I have seen the Longhorns play and know they have a good team. However I saw them most recently in the Disney SNIT and knew they had the type pitcher needed to handle MBA. Even though the Longhorns didnt fair too well against some of the Fla teams in Nov.
They didnt know how to pitch MBA. Now the secret is out!!! Plus Doc I thought you had said that MBA is now a much better team than in the fall with the new additions in another thread.

An "excuse" can also be an explanation of a reason why something that was supposed to happen, did not. "Making" an excuse seems to be the creation of false reasons. That is not the case here.
The message is not being sent to our team of 11-year olds, they know better than anyone that we should not have lost that game. They are well aware of the circumstances that led to that loss.

FYI: MBA Pride 11u is playing 12u Triple Crown's Jacksonville Journey to the Stars during that same weekend. We try to not play 12u tournaments where other MBA 12u teams are participating. After looking carefully at the 17 Major teams registered in the Florida Elite Invitational, I did not see The Hitmen as one of the participating teams.

Papa is so glad you Florida guys are on board. The first reason I am glad is that you all seem to love this game of baseball and most seem to know what they are talking about. The second and biggest reason is that with ya'll on each others back you have to get off Papa's back while you are climbing each others.
G Man certainly seems to know his baseball and he is absolutely correct in his assessment of pitching philosophy but in my mind the same thing he is saying about MBA Pride would apply to the Bandits and all the rest of us. If you have the right pitcher going with the right combination of pitches then the Bandits, MBA, Bombers and any of us could get beat. Papa watched the games first hand and a lot of you trust my opinion as I rarely give an opinion so when I do it is like EF Hutton and you had better listen.
Now listen to me good on this one. This is exactly why we all keep coming back. If the Bandits knew they was going to win them all then we would lose interest and play another sport that would offer a bigger challenge and so would all the rest of you.
The reason we play the game is that when we start the score is 0-0 and its anybody's game. You are smart baseball people so you must know that the best team does not always win the baseball game. There are so many variables that can get you beat and I will list just a few and let you expand the list. 1. You run up against a pitcher that throws the game of his life. 2. You get 3 bad hops that lead to the winning run scoring. 3. You just got your butt out-coached 4. 4 bloop hits that wouldn't break a window pane and you are out of the tournament. 5. And this is my best one, The kids wake up and remember that they are just 11 years old and act their age. I could go on forever but this should serve to remind you all why you love this game the way you do and why you are coming back this weekend after just losing to the teams in last week's tournament.
If you play the game long enough I promise that you will get bit and you can take that to the bank. I like this Longhorn team and I like their attitude and we should all take note when he says its not all about the winning. These kids playing each other is preparing them for bigger and better things ahead such as high school baseball. Some will make the journey and some won't but all of them will always remember the experience of playing elite travel baseball against the best teams in this nation.
Does anyone out there really expect that MBA Pride (a truly great team) or the Bay Bombers (another truy great team) will be afraid to show up this week. If you do you are dreaming.
The sun does not shine in the same dog's bu-- all the time and you never know when your dog's bu-- will be pointing toward the sun so come on and let's get it on. |

Well-stated - you're a baseball philosopher. Don't forget to send me the CD. If you already have, thanks.

This is a wonderful quote! I would like to post it on our website if I have your permission?
