Glad to see 18 teams listed under the 14u division of the Triple Crown Spring Frost! Hope they get the tourney in with such a good sign up. Should make for some early season fun and maybe, just maybe...we might get lucky and get a little dry and decently warmer weather next week. Will be nice just to get out there as outdoor field time has been limited to really non-existent! Not a bad field for the sign up either - good luck to all!

not having a gate fee for teams to pay works well despite what people say..i bet not all of these 18 teams would not have signed up if they had to pay $150 gate fee

Let's say 13 kids per team. $5 to get in to East Cobb. 1.5 paid relatives per player/per day. That's right at $200 for 2 days. $300 if you play Fri/Sat/Sun.

At least those dreaded dad coaches get in free.

Why are we talking about gate fees?

This is no different than normal. No there is no blanket team gate fee because that is not an economical option if you are hosting a tournament. I have done the math and it only works if you are playing at a park that charging an individual gate fee is not feisable.

This should be a good tournament with a lot of good teams playing. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

My only point was that the teams are no better off, in fact it costs more, if you have an individual gate fee vs team gate fee.

Also, not for nothing, but Triple Crown charges a team gate fee when they run a tournament away from ECB.

I don't have a problem with either, fwiw. Nobody's holding a gun to anybody's head.

although me and alter agree on most things (meaning he is usually right) the point on gate fee is that unless you budget your season around gate fee's it wrecks your budget and you cant re-coup the money. What next tournaments saying you have to stay in their approved hotels so they can get a kick back or you have to play extra? what? they do that too?

whit,
I agree that a "Team Gate Fee" is nice for the families, but havoc on the team budget unless you know going in that the tournament will be ran that way.

The one thing that can give it away is "What facility is being used?"

For parks like Sandy Plains, where charging a gate fee is almost impossible, you know most all of those will have to use a "Team Gate fee" whereas parks like ATPP and EC, you will almost always get a regular gate fee.

As for the hotels, the concept is in negotiating with the hotels that they will offer the "Lowest rates" through this service, they have to be assured that the organization is going to have all their out of town teams order this way. If you are getting a better rate, for the same quality hotel, outside the reservation service, that would be beneficial to know.

Back to the original intent of the post;

It is exciting that there are 17 14U teams paid to play this weekend (a couple others listed but not paid yet). That is huge. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I guess it would be too much to ask for 65 degree weather two weekends in a row.

It looks like Tony has plans to split the group in half after pool play, which is good.

Woo hoo, let the season get started!!!!!!

Does anyone know where all of these 14U games will be played? Last year, before it was cancelled, they had 8 teams and were only going to use Fields #2 & #3 at ECB. This year there are 18 teams, plus a strong 13U field of 12 teams. We'll have to assume the 13U's will have ECB #5 and #6. Mount Bethel is more of a 13U field but it was used as a 14U last Fall. None of the high school fields are available, so I'm wondering where they are playing all of these games.

Mammabees prediction is pretty close-- just remove his beloved Stallions and replace with Team Combat.

Mammabee's Gold Division would also include Pro Spot Fitness, South Forsyth War Eagles, ECB Chargers, Georgia Crush and Cherokee Reds. Mamma also has the Stallions finishing last in the Silver Division after getting run ruled by the Walton Jr, Raiders.

There is a difference between the top 11 teams and who will make what bracket. IMO those are not the top 11 (maybe 8 of them) but those 10 could end up there.

Tyrone will win their pool and i do not see combat listed?

Whit,
Looks like 2 of the three ended up in the silver. Congrats for making the "Top 11" cut for the Gold bracket.

I think this Team Gwinnett is not the same team (in total) that has been discussed here previously. It would have been nice to see the real Stallion team play to see how things are going to shake out. Kinda suggests lack of confidence in the Stallion team foundation.

I think i am more glad to make it out with no major injuries, i had 2 guys in a sling or cast and 2 left to go to their school game but as most everyone will say getting some live reps and not having any injuries is a good feb weekend.

I wonder if anyone dented a bat this weekend?

Will, you sold me a Plasma -5 last fall if you remember. My son didnt dent it this weekend. He cracked it. And it was only a balmy 38 when he did it Friday night. Didnt you give a warranty with that bat? Where can I send you the bat so I can get my replacement

LOL, blamy 38. My son's team played an 8:30 game on Friday and I would just like to say that ANY player or parent that was out there for those night games this weekend deserves some props. It was good to get the season started but man it was cold.

Unfortunately after making the gold bracket ALL of our players were somehow replaced in the top of the 4th inning with teenagers who seem to have no concentration or interest in baseball for the rest of the game and as expected it ended badly. Oh well, we did see some good stuff prior to that and it looks to be an exciting year. Hope everyone gets through the weekend without injuries or frost bite.
