The Roadrunners are excited to join up with the A's for this event. It should be a great tournament and a very good prep for the event at Cooperstown this year. Get your money in quickly as this will fill up soon!

Coaches,

ONLY 8 SPOTS REMAIN

We are getting close to the start of the this tournament, which means we are only a bit further away from going to Cooperstown. We are excited and hope that the planning we are putting into this event will be a positive experience for your boys and families. I wanted to update you on a few things that are important for you to know about how this event will be structured. Also, once I have final payment by all teams, I will begin to built the schedule. I hope to give you ample notice of the schedule rather than the few days you are accustom to with other events.

1) Honda CarLand Cooperstown Skills Competitions. As you are aware, included in your registration for this event is participation in the Cooperstown Skills Competitions. We will be holding these on Thursday and Friday evenings on Field #4 at Webb Bridge Park. Half of the teams will compete on Thursday and the other half on Friday. Those evenings we will run the following events.

a) Roadrunner (1 Player)
b) Golden Arm (1 Player)
c) Around the Horn Plus (9 Players)

The instructions for these are on our tournament website as well as the Cooperstown Dream Park site. Each team will be called into the dugout and will do all three events in front of all the other teams and families. Once done, we would encourage you to stay as the other teams compete in a show of sportsmanship and good fun.

On Saturday morning we will hold the King of Swat home run derby for the one player from your team elected to participate in this event.

We will hold a separate "Open" Home Run Derby Saturday afternoon. This will be for a cost to any player that wants to participate and open to all 12U players.

As you can see from the title, this has been named the Honda Carland Cooperstown Skills Challenge. Honda Carland has donated certified autographed baseball bats and balls signed by Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves as awards for these competitions. The individual winners will get a bat and each of the 9 players in the winning Around the Horn Plus will get an autographed baseball.

In addition, 1st and 2nd place trophies will be awarded. These same awards (including the bat) will be awarded for the "Open" derby as well.

2) Tournament Shirts. We will be taking pre-orders only for the tournament shirt. Look for another email from me shortly with the graphic and order form. We will be charging $12 for these shirts.

3) Pool Play games. As you can see from the field, we have a good mix of higher level teams, mid level and lower level. This is excellent as it represents what we will all experience in NY. It is my intent to balance the pools such that there will be representation from each level in each pool. I'm sure it won't be even, but we will do our best using your declared level on your registration form. This will ensure that you play at level, above level and below level in pool play.

In addition, we will be holding pool games on Thursday and Friday evening. So, expect to play one of those nights with the other night being your team participation in the Skills Competition.

4) Bracket Play. Bracket play will be seeded based on pool performance. We will reward defense first in the tie breaker. There is a sample bracket on the web-site. The way it works is that the bottom 8 teams play in the first round then the winner moves forward to face the next 4 lowest seeds. This continues until the top 4 seeds meet those teams that have played through the bracket to meet them. What we like about this is that rather than 1/2 the field being eliminated after the first round, this allows more teams the opportunity to play more games.

We anticipate having a great time at this event with each of your. Our intent is to provide a great experience and get as much baseball in as we have field time to consume. We intentionally kept the size of the tournament in check so that we could provide the 4-game minimum experience and 1 Hr. 40 Min. games.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Most of you have paid your registration fee. Those who have not, please contact me and get it to me ASAP. This is a very popular event and we want to ensure that you who expressed interest early continue to have your spot.

Thanks,

Scott Shields

This tournament is OPEN to all teams and will have a field of teams representative of the competition we will encounter at Cooperstown. Pools will be balanced such that teams will play at, above and below level during the 3 pool games. The bracket is the same as Cooperstown where the bottom 8 seeded teams will play for the right to play then next higher 4 seeds in the second round. The top seeds will wait with multiple byes. All teams will play 4 games and 24 teams will play 5 games, etc.

Included in the registration are the Honda CarLand Cooperstown Skills Competition.
