In the "What are the rankings?" thread, someone mentioned the hard work that goes into playing this game. What's a typical in season week like for your baseball players? What about off season work?

Interesting no one has replied.

Here is what our son does:

Pitching/Throwing:
*30 minute Private pitching lesson once a week both in season and out of season.(Takes a break for about 6 weeks in the late fall/early winter)
*Off-season - Long Toss at least twice a week. Bullpen session at least one other time other than pitching lesson)
*In-season - Team usually practice 2-3 times a week with throwing and bullpen included

Batting:
*30 minute Private hitting lesson once a week both in season and out of season.
(Takes a break for about 6 weeks in the late fall/early winter)
*At least 2 more times hitting (on the field when possible), other than lessons, during both in-season and out of season.

Fielding:
In-season team practices 2-3 times a week with fielding included. Typically one additional day of some fielding work outside of practice.
Out of Season - typically once per week depending on the weather and availability. Usually on a specific skill trying to improve.

***Last season the entire team did private hitting lessons once a week from August - Jan. and the catchers did private catching lessons along with the hitting.
***Last off-season the team practiced three times a week (2 during the week and once on Sunday) working on specific skills such as being in the right position fielding ground balls, being in the right place for cut-off's, double cut, throwing to the right place, hit and run, bunting, bunt defense, baserunning/stealing, base stealing defense, catcher's work, pitchers covering 1b on ground ball to the right side, etc.

For my 14U 2009 spring team, we practiced a lot from Nov. to Feb. (inside and outside). We met three days a week (Thur., Sat. and Sun). In our park once the Pony/Senior league teams formed we were very limited on field time so after mid Feb. we practiced maybe once every other week. I found (and paid for) another field to get some work in but practice time was very low.

During the pre-season we worked as a team. We did batting cages on Thursday. Saturday we had more batting cages with professional pitching instruction from a Minor league pitcher. Sunday we had a field practice; mostly fundamental fielding drills, throwing and hitting. The practice focus changed as we progressed through the months. I gave each player an evaluation sheet that had individual goals for skill improvements. I graded them each month on their improvement. My goal was to teach them how to get better each time we practiced and to focus on what they needed to do to improve their skills.
