We have had very consistant updates on the changes and upgrades of the 11 U teams out of ECB/NWest GA (bandits)/643 and other teams from the Marietta area. What changes were made or what is the status of the Roswell/Alpharetta/Cumming teams. A few of these teams started to step up towards the end of last year and we haven't heard very much about them this fall. Who are the sleepers from the GA 400 group of teams?

Shut Out,
Several teams in this area are still trying to fill their rosters, so the dust has not totally settled. IMHO, the talent is too widely disbursed, which is why there are so few Major caliber teams. There are a lot of Major caliber players, but they are too spread out (like in neighboring Gwinnett County). Cobb does a better job of concentrating top players onto a small group of Major caliber teams.

The top teams that come to mind in no particular order:
Midway Dirty Dawgs
Sharon Springs Blue
Sharon Springs Black (were Silver last year)
Georgia Raptors
W.Forsyth Diamond Dawgs (new team, w/ some ex-Sawnee Mtn Thunder boys)
Warriors (dropped Dobbs Creek from their name)
N.Georgia Jackets White (new team have a few N.Ga Storm players)
N. Georgia Jackets Gold (I think this is the Jackets from last year)
Wills Park Wranglers
Alpharetta A's

These teams are all capable of surprising Major teams.

The Milton Mets, Forsyth Fire Ants, and N.Ga Storm disbanded. The Roswell Hornets and Sawnee Mtn Thunder both lost several key players. Central Park Titans added some talent, so might surprise. the Ocee all stars are usually good.

If I've missed any AAA or Major caliber teams, or made any mistakes, please chime in. It's a full time job keeping up with all this. I don't pretend to know it all.

Shut out: Just so that you will know. The Bandits have made no upgrades from our Cooperstown N.Y. roster. We have lost one of our better players but he has not been replaced at this time. We are standing pat at this time but not to say if the right player came along with a little chili on top that we would not be interested.

bmoser,
Is it so spread out b/c of so many parks or is it like Gwinnett with no central hub like ECB? There was one team from that area that stepped up and beat kennesaw las summer but i can't remember who that team was. I think it was in the TC state tourney. I had never seen them before and was curious if that is the team that could suprise a few but couldn't remember who it was.

I think you are right. That name sounds familiar. What is their story? Was that a flash in the pan or are they one of the teams from that area that could make a run against the big boys?

Was the kid you lost with you in C-town? Does that take you back to 9 or 10 on your roster. I like my chili served better in ptree city:)

Shut Out asked..."Is it so spread out b/c of so many parks or is it like Gwinnett with no central hub like ECB?

Yes, that's part of it, but its also tied to land availability, land costs, and planning/zoning. Forsyth still has plenty of open land to construct ball fields, and land is still priced low enough for private recreational endeavors. Field availability is not as much of a barrier in Forsyth as it is in more densely populated areas. Forsyth also has a lot of Dads willing to Coach in relation to the number of travel caliber players. Thus...
Ample fields + ample Coaches + lower player population = dilution

Gwinnett is the opposite. Fewer fields per-capita with a higher percent of them county-owned and controlled, so you see cluster teams and fewer independent teams. If you leave the cluster program, its tough to find practice field time. A few have persevered. As Papa says, where there's a will, there's a way.

Don't be fooled though, there are plenty of Major caliber players hidden on these Forsyth and Gwinnett teams.

Shut out: Yes the kid we lost was with us in Cooperstown and Papa already misses him. He was very versatile and played multiple positions and was one of the better catchers in the state. He will be missed. One of the toughest things about youth baseball is making decisions on the roster.

Those decisions are hard on everone. The coach, team, families and most importantly the kid. Do you know what team he went to? Also do you know where the kids from last years cougars that didn't make the cut go to? If you add those couple of kids to on one roster together they would be a good foundation for any new or rebuilt roster.
