I think you are most likely 1/2 right. We are definitely not ready yet but the main reason is that 3 of our top 5 pitchers are experiencing minor arm problems and with the weather and lack of practice Coach felt like we had better wait to jump into the fire. I am disappointed and was really looking forward to the trip but this is the reason Coach makes the big bucks. We are playing in Tennessee which is much closer to home so when we lose we won't have far to travel and we are playing up so we should be pushed.

Too bad you guys weren't pushed this past weekend. It was a poor representation of new 12u teams in tourney. Did you guys have everybody there?

We did not have our big first baseman on Saturday as he was playing linebacker and tackle in Finley Stadium home of UTC Mocs which was a real treat for us.

He did make it to the Sunday games although on Sunday our shortstop and pitcher had to go back home as he was running a temp and could not play.

We were playing up in the 12U division and all in all we looked pretty good although with the weaker competition it is hard to tell how you really stack up. Gosh, I miss East Cobb as you always get pushed to the max there.

Forest Gump said playing youth baseball tournaments is like a box of chocolates, "You never know what you will get until you bite into it.

Baseball Papa

Does this mean the Bandits are entering the TC fall State Championships @ East Cobb?

I hope so but this decision belongs to Coach Troy and not Papa. We have several football players still playing and several arms that are still hurting. We would like to play in everything but that is not possible. If we can come we will be there and if not we wish all of our friends good luck. So I guess the answer is that I don't know the answer to your question.

Papa- is it true that you guys had another pitcher go down to injury over the fall/winter? I hope it was just an ugly rumor that was being bantered around at the field the other day.

I heard the same rumor referencing one of the kids that came over from the grip. Hopefully it is just a rumor and the kid is OK. Papa?

Shutout: Knock on wood but so far so good. We have all of our pitchers available. Contrary to popular belief our pitchers pitch less than most any pitcher out there. We are lucky enough to have 7 top line pitchers and yes I said 7. Our top 4 pitchers are talked about a lot but the strength of our pitching staff is depth and allows our pitchers to throw fewer innings than the team that only has 3-4 pitchers. Let's hear about some of the other pitching staff's and how they are being used.

Shut Out, I can answer this one if you don't mind. We DID NOT have another pitcher "go down to injury" over the Fall/Winter ... at least not baseball related. One of our boys suffered appendicitus (sp?), another broke his leg at school and another fell on his elbow in his driveway. We did have a scare with my son complaining of shoulder pain but after xrays and an MRI, he proved to be perfectly healthy and had probably pulled a muscle. He's as strong as ever leading up to our season opener.

Thanks for checking with us instead of perpetuating untrue stories.

I'm happy to hear it was a bad rumor as even though we all get tired of losing to you guys it is a ton of fun whatching your team compete.

Shut Out: How do you feel that teams with only 3-4 pitchers get by or is the very reason that they don't win as much. It would appear that these pitchers would be used much more than a team that has 6-7 arms available. One of the keys to winning travel baseball is the way the pitching is used. Save it for the championship game and you may not make it and use it early and you won't have anything left for the ship. This is what makes baseball fun and keeps us all coming back. I think the key is to make sure that no one kid is being overpitched to the point of causing an injury. Just because you see the same one or two pitchers used in the championship game doesn't mean that they have pitched any more than the other pitchers. You notice him more because of the importance of that game.

Papa,
Being able to know when to pitch which player and for how long is like playing poker of knowing when to hold them and when to fold them.... You guys have always had great pitching but the secret to your staff is how great the defense behind them is. Their ability to throw strikes and not give up walks has been far more impressive than most teams at this age. When you throw strikes good hitters put the bat on the ball but but that is when your great fielding team goes to work. I saw the game you guys lost at the SNIIT last year and frankly it was more due to the fences wouldn't hold the fly balls that would have been outs if you were on bigger fields than it was your pitching not being up to par. Good luck against the 12's at the slugfest. Until those guys prove me wrong my money is on the bandits.

Thanks ShutOut and you are dead on right about the defense. It's really fun to watch any team that is able to put all of the pieces of the game of baseball together and to get all the pieces to fit together like they were intended.

More has been made of the Bandits playing 12U than I thought would be made of it. I watched the Southern Jaquars and the Longhorns that are now mostly Astros play up last year. I know that they won some games and I also know that they played very well and gave a good account of their teams but I am not sure if either one ever won a tournament playing up.

What about this research Mr. Moser. How did the Jaquars and Astros fare playing up last year. I know that the year before last when the Chiefs tried playing up that they somewhat successful but could not seem to knock the big dogs off.

Regardless whether they win or not it makes them better. Once they get to high school the ages don't matter anymore.

Bandits will make their first of several excursions into the 12U world of baseball this weekend weather permitting. I don't mind telling you that we are a little apprehensive but they do not appear to be intimidated. We have taken a lot of flak and as Coaches and parents hope that we have made the right decision for the boys but only time will tell. The expectations that have been set are reasonable and the boys know that we only expect that they play hard, play without fear, and never quit. If we can get this and also have the opportunity to see the 12U pitching we should come out better for the experience.

K_coach, we are playing at Midway this weekend. 10am and 1:30pm on Saturday.

(Sorry to answer for Papa but he probably doesn't remember where and when we play - he gets really disoriented when he wakes from his nap)

k coach: Bandit 13 is Papa's travel coordinator. If he says we play at these times then Papa will be there. Anyone out there that can share the web site and Papa will ask that they keep it updated. I am a little bit antsy about this one as we really do not know what to expect. I just hope the weather allows us the opportunity to play.

The Midway Bats are running the tourney but I'm not sure if they will be posting updates or not. You can get a link to their website on Eteamz.

Come on blowinsmoke and give ole Papa and the Bandits a break. We don't know one of these teams from the other and the only really good pool draw we ever got was when we stayed at the Wilderness Resort and played in the largest indoor water park in the Southeast. Once you start playing everybody is in the same boat.
