East Cobb MVP Invitational Recap

The East Cobb MVP Invitational took place April 4-6, 2008. After serious amounts of rain fell on the East Cobb Baseball Complex both on Friday night and most of the day Saturday, the tournament finally got underway on Sunday morning with a revised schedule. The fields were muddy, the skies gray but the baseball was good. And everyone wanted to just play some ball.

In the 9U division, the East Cobb Astros and the Holly Springs Express came ready to play. Both notched early wins to get the morning started. They then matched up together for the third game of the day and it was a good one. The Express drew home team and left the tieing player standing on third with a strikeout to end the game. It was a well played game. The East Cobb Longhorns then put an 8 spot on the board against the Forsyth Fire Ants.

The Astros and the Longhorns both advanced to the 9U championship for a rematch from the morning game. The Astros bats were hot and they won the championship 13-1. Congratulations to the Astros! Game scores from the day were as follows:

East Cobb Astros - 3, East Cobb Longhorns - 1
Holly Springs Express - 9, Forsyth Fire Ants - 3
East Cobb Astros - 8, Holly Springs Express - 7
East Cobb Longhorns - 8, Forsyth Fire Ants - 0
Championship: East Cobb Astros - 13, East Cobb Longhorns - 1

In the 10U division, we welcomed the North Wake Bulls from Raleigh NC to our fine complex. The spent the weekend taking in the sights of Atlanta while waiting out the rain to finally play some baseball. That time finally came on Sunday but our local teams did not show them the southern hospitality we are known for. Instead the East Cobb Stallions and the Sandy Plains Wildcats put up runs in the bunches while shutting down the visiting Bulls.

With the Bulls returning home mid-day, the remainder of the teams were seeded for semifinal play. The Stallions who only gave up 2 runs in pool play edged out the Wildcats who were nearly as good but gave up 5 runs. The Stallions took care of the East Cobb Yankees while the Wildcats edged out Team Wilson to advance to the finals.

The championship game was a battle and a low scoring affair. In the end, the Stallions had just enough to put away the Wildcats for the 10U championship. Both teams each played 4 games to make it to the final game. Congratulations to the Stallions for winning the 10U division.
