As a long time supporter of the ECB program I am writing to voice my frustration with the recent change in what I hope is not the philosophy of ECB and management of its teams.
I understand the process of selecting players, having tryouts, and attempting to build winning teams, but when did team management and treating players and families with respect go out the door?
I am very concerned about the new group of young coaches who do not seem to understand that these baseball teams require not only the ability to coach skills and player development but also require team management or the business side of running a team. I don’t use “owed” very often and respect may be a better word to use, but to not return a phone call or email to a player is not acceptable in my opinion.
Talk to your players, explain to them were they stand and what they need to work on in order to advance or in order to reach their goal. Explain to them why and what will get them to next level. Keep these quality players at ECB, it’s a very competitive business and there are many programs out there. We should be attracting the best and developing the rest not pushing players and families away from ECB. These kids put in a lot of time and deserve a 5 minute conversation.
