Should an existing 13U player with a mid May birthday (6 ft. 155 pounds, 400 avg. 70 stolen bases over 77 games - pitching stats from 42 partial or complete games are 2.74 ERA9, 1.8 K/BB, 1.33 WHIP, .192 BAA) that will be a freshman playing fall and spring HS baseball try out for a 14U team or a 15U team? My initial thought is he will miss alot of practices/games of a 14U team as most of those kids will be in 8th grade and available to play during the week and first part of the spring. Any thoughts on which way to go here? |

Play with the age group that represents his class. Since he will be a freshman this year, have him play 15. |

I would think that the best thing would be for him to come play with us. |

It depends. Moving from 54' mounds to 60'6" mounds is a big jump and you will see his numbers change. He will have to learn to throw to his spots much more so than at 13, where harder throwers are often able to rear back and throw it by batters.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend making the jump this year to 15. Let him play the best level of 14U he is capable of playing. In other words, playing on a Major 14U team would be better than playing on a AAA 15U team from a depth/quality of hitter/pitcher standpoint, in my opinion. If he does really well this year at 14, he can always step up to play with the level that represents his class. That's who he is going to compete with and against in high school, but I always recommend going to the place where he will get the best coaching and the most repitition at these younger age groups. Plenty of time at 17 and 18 to worry about "playing with his school friends". |

If he makes the JV team then it only makes sense for him to play at the 15 level. I would let him play for a 14 year team if they are playing up often. There are no benefits for him to play next year with kids that are not in highschool. |

My suggestion is play 14U AAA fall then 14U Maj or 15U AAA post high school season. If you have to commit to a team for the full year then I'd play up 14U Maj/15U AAA. |

I think they should all play with their grade. I never have understood why they wouldn't. I wouldn't want my 9th grader that is playing HS ball playing with 8th graders...... It was kind of hard last season having 4 HS players not able to play until after their HS was over. We had 2 that played varsity and they didn't join us until May. Every team kept saying their team would be better once the HS kids joined them. |

Easy, play with two teams.. In the fall, play with a 14u team and a 15u team. Whichever he likes more, commit and make that the main team with the understanding that you may go over to the other team and get some work in also. |
