Who won these tournaments and were there any big upsets. My money was that the Reds would win their own tournament over the ECB Braves and the ECB Yankees would win out at East Cobb. Right?

Effingham Young Guns (near Savannah) beat the Oregon Park Vipers 10-8 in the Championship Game of the Cherokee Reds Invitational.

Great tournament! Really good teams throughout.

The 12 under Reds didn't win their own tournament. They ran into a buzz saw pitcher out of Effingham. Big lefty who threw in the 70's w/ a change up in the 50's.
A lot of upsets. Very competitive tournament.

The Astros looked good, however, the best games were in the other bracket with stronger teams. The EC Hurricanes, Mavericks, N. Gwinnett Bulldogs, Ocee Stars and Roswell Hornets took turns pounding each other in some very competitive close games.

Did you not think the EC Astros were very good? They did very well at the Border Wars and it looks like they handled the competition at the Directors Cup. It seems like there were good teams at East Cobb this past weekend. Does anybody have any insight on the teams they faced?

I hate to say this because I am not a big Astros fan, but this team is big, fast and pounded the ball all the way thru their line up. They just destroyed every team in their path. They scored 71 runs in 5 games, runned ruled everyone and they did it against teams that have won tournaments this season. While maybe there were good games played in the other pool and there were close games, the Astros runned ruled the winner of that pool too.
I do not think there is a 12u team in Georgia that can play with them right now and if there is one I would hate to play that team.
I would like them to face off against the Monarchs or Bandits because these 3 teams have separated themselves away from the rest of the 12 year old teams in the state. This was just my observation and opinion on what I saw this past weekend.

The Sandy Plains Prowlers went 5-0 and won the 13-U tournament. The Prowlers came from behind to beat Acworth, 9-7 in the finals. The Prowlers Tyler Seaman pitched a perfect game in the Friday night pool play game. Seaman retired 21-of-21 batters, struck out nine, reached a 2-ball count on only two batters, and threw 67 pitches.

I think it would be fair to say that, the pool A & B in the East Cobb Astros Tourney were designed that way , The Astos are avery talented team , but everyone knew what was going on even the Astos parents made some of those comment ,yes they beat the NG Bulldogs who are a very goog team , but for those who know the teams in A or B pool .....it had some home cookin . the teams in bracket B were for the most part very competitive ..take a look at the scores , you had to bring you A game and you pitching had to be on for all 4 games to advance .remember no semis ,,just pool play and a championship game ,CONGRATS ASTROS

Director Cup Pool Play. On paper the logic behind this theory of "Home Cookin" in the Pool alignments really doesnt work.. The only way this theory works is if and only if the Astros lost to N. Gwinn, but the Astros runned ruled them 11-3. N. Gwinn went 4-0 and the Astros went 4-0 therefore the 2 best teams won their pools and made it to the Championship Game. This arguement should end with those facts.

On paper Pool A would have been the most competive pool. Front Row came in with a USSSA 9-1 record with 2 1st place finishes. The EC Yankees won the S. Forsyth beating Ocee, N. Gwinn and tieing Roswell. Team Wilson this season beat Ocee and the EC Yankees, lost to the EC Hurricanes but played the EC Braves, Monarchs, and Mentium respectfully. The little Hobgood team would have one 2 games in either pool. Also if you look at the records of the teams that did not advance, they were all very similar in both pools, therefore the pool alignments were extremely balanced and had nothing to do with the outcome of the tournament. The 4 teams in pool A that did not advance would have the same arguement as the teams in pool B. Please tell me where my thinking is wrong.

I think what bbpastime is saying is that the Atros pool was weaker. The didn't need to burn a lot of their pitching to advance. Conversley, the other pool had to burn a lot pitching just to make it to the playoffs. Still, the fact of the matter is the Astros won. Congrats!!

As Popeye liked to say: "That's all I can stands, and I can't stands no more".

The pools were done the same way as the Super NIT. EXCEPT for Team Wilson and the Mavericks (explanation Below).

Major Teams:
1. Hornets 450 points
2. Yankees 180 Points
3 Astros 155 Points
4. Hurricanes 120 points
5 Team Wilson 70 Points
6. Mavericks 0 points

AAA Teams:
7. Sluggers 545 Points
8 Stars 120 Points
9. Bulldogs 90 Points

11U Team:
10. Hobgood Heat 11's.

1, 4, 5, 8, 9 in one pools
2, 3, 6, 7, 10 in the other.

When ranking the teams I swapped Team Wilson and the Mavericks since the Astros have a game scheduled against the Mavericks later in the year, and, because of the Team Wilson points in theory a "STRONGER" team was put in the Astro's pool.

That's it, plain and simple. No East Cobb conspiracy, no trying to stack a pool.

B-BOB, Its all about getting to the championship game , your odds are 50/50 in most 12 u cases, unless your the bandtis, banditos , mentium , monarchs or astros . I am saying that seeing all these these , and we have played all but 3 of the teams that were in the past tourney and all but 1 that i have mentioned that being the banditos, you can figure out who are the stronger teams , and where they can hurt you . 12UCOACH , no doubt did it based on points , its the perception, TAKE NOTHING AWAY FROM THE ASTROS , i dont think too many teams could have competed with them this weekend , they played great baseball.
